I have seen posters that have demonstrated accuracy in their reply. That lends credibility.

Sometimes it a consensus that helps lead someone in the right direction. If everybody says to check the fuel filter its a good place to start.

So I guess it takes giving sound accurate advice to develop your
TBD Cred (TractorByNet Credibility).:D

I agree with the consensus concept.

There are a number of folks on TBN whom I consider to be intellectually honest. Many of those are very intelligent too, and well trained/educated to boot. Normally, I can pick the correct answer to my questions out of a line-up, but if the question is so complicated that I can't trust my ability to pick the correct answer (I am clueless,) I will consider the intellectual honesty and qualifications of the poster. Fortunately, TBN is a pretty safe place for the occasional "clueless."

We are brave and bold to post on a tractor forum, given the number people who start a thread with a question, and then die mysteriously. Surely they would have posted back "It worked! Thanks!" had they not died of a massive coronary from the excitement of their tractor being fixed.

Edit: I answer newbies, and I am happy to. If they decide not to stick around, I think that is a mistake, but I can respect the decision. All I ask is that they complete the thread they started by stating the outcome.

One of the major reasons I left LMF was because I tried so hard to help newbies who had an issue with equipment, and the majority of those I tried to help never followed up to let I or anyone else know if a solution worked or not. How are you going to learn if you solved the problem is they don't inform you? Here on TBN the same issue exists but it isn't as severe.

It depends right? ;)

Actually I think its about the answers or questions that makes sense to make head or tails about your situation. I also think that the longer you are here on TBN as a lurker or contributor, you would already know who you prefer to listen to or take with a grain of salt. I am not going to mention names, but there are alot of TBN'ers that I trust or use as a direction to figure things out next. ( I just hate to leavee one out due to failing memory

I agree. Some of the most useful posts are the ones from the low posters. Not saying that the high posters don't know what they are talking about, because they usually do as well. If someone takes time to thoroughly explain the problem/solution I take their advices as credible no matter the count.

Totally agree with that.

I hate it when I help somebody out and they don't get back to say if it worked.

I'm guilty of not coming back to a thread I think it was JJ who posted in it. I was asking about a hydraulic pump too see if it would work with my engine.

If your reading this JJ. I thank you for your help and sorry I didn't reply back.

I got busy with other things and the thread slipped my mind until now.

After you have been on here for a while and read a lot of posts you pretty much know who to listen to. It seems that some people are just trying to get their post count up without offering valuable info to a question. Some others seem to want to instigate an argument. If I have a serious problem that I cannot figure out and some one that I am not sure of posts a reply I look at their profile(if they filled it out).

Yes, the profile helps too. I don't like it when somebody doesn't add any information to their profile, as it makes me wonder what they are hiding!

Post count has little or nothing to do with the advice...if it's mechanical or technical, the person with the most competence or experience...KennyD with the smaller Deeres, Soundguy with the old Ford iron as examples. Also, those folks who have a degree of common sense...again, regardless of post counts.

I read the post JDGreen227 is referring to...that's not the first one in which the OP got an attitude because nobody responded...
