RAM also makes a Tradesman HD package which is actually the cheapest option ($21,925) so it's good for fleet sales. 3/4 ton 8 lug axles, 11,500 lbs towing, 3,125 lb payload, HEMI, 4.10 axle and 8610 GVWR and 17,500 GCWR.

I agree its a lot of bang for the buck but its a 3/4 ton, not a HD 1/2 ton. I realize there is not much difference between the two but we are talking 1/2 tons here with HD packages.

I didn't read through the entire 11 pages, so someone else may have already posted this. Ford has been talking about a diesel in the F-150 for 10 or 12 years. But, that's it, just talk.

If GM would get the ball rolling and release the BabyMax then I would really enjoy sitting back and watch the games begin between the big 3. Dodge is at least testing theirs which is the first I've seen of any of these 1/2 ton diesels other then on paper. Least now I know they're building them to test drive.

I'll believe it when I see them for sale. Testing means very little. Every mfg understands that what ever diesel they put into a truck has to justify the extra cost with some sort of benefit to the buyer. For 3/4 and 1 tons it's the extra grunt for towing with the side benefit of providing about the same fuel economy as a less powerful gas engine. In a half ton it'll have to stand on gas mileage along. With our current emission standards I don't see it happening. No matter what form of fuel is used to scrub the exhaust it has to be added into the cost of operation. Who knows, maybe battery technology will get to the point where it can be used to scrub the exhaust.

If you read it you'll see they are actually driving diesel powered RAM 1500 test mules. Actually building and driving working prototypes is a LOT more than just talk. Plus with Ford making in-house diesel engines (in Mexico), I highly doubt they will design and build one to compete with the EcoBoost. Then again, when Dodge and GM have diesel 1/2 tons making 250hp/400lb.ft. and returning 25-30 mpg, Ford may have to...

Will GM LD Trucks Have a Diesel Option? - PickupTrucks.com News

Dmace,
"Test" or prototype vehicles really mean nothing. Ford has had several F-150 "test" trucks with diesel engines, but nothing in the showroom that you can actually buy.

I'm like crazyal, I'll believe it when I see them on the dealer lots. ;)

Battery technology will not improve until the Almighty re-writes the laws of physics. Less powerful gasoline engine? HP is HP and how much is really required? Does every trailing trip involve a 26,000lb trailer in the mountains without dropping below 70mph in the fast lane? How did 40 ton of freight plus the weight of the truck and trailer ever move coast to coast over two mountains ranges ? With just a 6-71T or a 318DD. Most trailering is under 10,000lbs with a regular driver's license. 360HP in the 3/4 ton GM. Gasser and 397 GMC diesel. Less than 40 HP ,precious little difference
