HA! bcp intejected what I was going to.

Send his parents a bill to fix it, weather it is collectable or not, it will get there attention.
Heck give HIM the invoice! Want to be anonomous? Send the kid an invoice from
a ficticious company and enclosed a video of him in the drivers seat.

He's only 14, don't call the cops...

You want to be friends with the grandmother. The GM will protect the GS like a mother bear. He can do NO wrong. You need to make her see that the GS needs protecting from HIMSELF.
Videotape his actions.
Whichever you or your wife gets along better with the GM advise her that her GS is doing dangerous stuff, show her the videotape, and tell the GM the other spouse is getting so mad they are going to call the police or the insurance.

Have your tractor "die" on the road on a Saturday afternoon, call the neighbors and say you'll get it fixed by morning. That will be a big speed bump.

Got any work that 14 year old can help you with? Maybe you could pay him to help you work on that road? Maybe invite grandma and him over for dinner one night?

Getting to know him might be the best thing that could happen as you sound like a pretty cool person that could be a positive influence in his life. You are also young enough for him to relate to

I find myself in complete agreement. My initial approach would be to speak with the grandmother then if possible grandmother and son to express your very legitimate concerns. I have found it helpful to then lay out all options with the desired results. The ideal options are going to be the less onerous ones, but it should be clear that if those don't yield the desired results there will be an escalation and the escalation will be dependent on them, not you. In some circles this is described as transferring the decision making as you have laid out the desired results and consequences.

How you handle this could very well change this young man's life and safe tax payers money down the road. It may not work, but it may be worth a try.

I have put a LOT of people in prison and while many were lost causes quite a few could have been diverted if someone had exerted a positive influence in their life.

Years ago my wife and I lived next to a couple of kids who had lost their parents. They drove through our driveway, had people park in our yard when they had a party and disturbed the whole neighborhood. I had some discussions with them and it wasn't long before they turned into really good kids. It took a while and they continued to party etc., but they were respectful to the neighborhood. Both grew up to be successful, well behaved men.

Just a thought.

I agree with this i have cooled down some sinice last night. I hate to see him go down the wrong path i watched many of my friends go down the wide path.
I should also add that just a few months ago the grandma was gone and her grandsons friends broke into her house and stole her jewlery collection... I can hope its not to late for this young man.

The best I have ever heard on handling such a situation was: The gentleman found out who the insurance carriier on the vehicle was. He then called the insurance company and asked if they were aware an underage - non-licensed driver was operating a vehicle insured by them in a reckless manner. The insurance was cancelled and the vehicle owner had a hard expensive time getting a new insurance company.

This might sound like a good idea - but the poor lady is in 70's.... do you really want to impose a hardship on a granny who depends on her ride?

The other thing is , what is the kid driving? car? dirtbike? go kart? etc?

I'd give the kid a job on your land to keep him busy. Any kid will work if money is good enough and good hard work is good for character building. After a few days or weeks, I'd slip in some work on the road you worked so hard on - give him a rake and explain what you want done on road and walk away. no need to explain who did it or why its there -- he will get the idea. ;)

Its not your road,so don't maintain it, then perhaps it may not bother you so much. There will always be h e l l raisers, we know you where not one of them so its may be hard to relate to them, and at the age of 19, he prolly has some oats to sow, he's mad at the world. He'll grow out of it, end up dead or in jail.

there is no fun in that. Its always nice to have seat time plus the satisfaction of having a nice smooth road. As he mentioned, its a private easement road. The last thing you need are enemies on the same private road you use. Plus OP mentioned he has his home open with wide arms on holidays to the granny so diplomacy is required here.

A well groomed drag strip perhaps full of loose gravel, how inviting could that possibly be to a 19 years old punk with a lead foot? I was the same way at 17-20 or so, totaled 3 cars growing up and raisin H e l l, for some reason, rough roads, pot holes, and the like seemed to be the area I took it easy, unless...unnless they where close to home and I had my motocrosser. We where all pretty much bullet proof at that age, he would be a good canidate for the military for sure! Simply an idea, nothing more, its hard to tell a kid at that age anything, and the more ya do,the more of a rebel he will be, so just make it less fun, cost him a few dollars in repairs, and hope he comes around, as I (kinda) did.
