For what its worth, Don was low. UPS is $91/per weight. They are 75lbs each. That's w/o hardware. UPS surchages heavily once you get over 70lbs.

Its very unusual for us to be put in this situation where we're being precieved as high priced. Normally we're the guys being fingered for being too cheap! That said, we don't view ourselves are being a mass discounter and we don't panic when someone comes up with a promotion that undercuts us by a buck or two. Anyone who has been in business will tell you that providing quality service and keeping customers happy while being competitive is far more important than being the cheapest guy each and every time.

Back in my shipping day UPS did not even ship over 70 lbs.It went truck. Union rules.

Shipping prices do drive me away from ordering some things. I ALWAYS shop prices and consider shipping cost as part of the price of the item(s). But, to get past the sticker shock I try to determine if I could get the item cheaper by buying local. Boat parts for example. It's an hour drive each way. A couple gallons of diesel plus my time is more expensive than shipping the few items I need...

I don't like shipping charges either, but it's a fact of life. Everything is shipped, so if one does not pay shipping, it's factored into the price of the item. If buying online, I try to buy out of a state that does not have a treaty with NY, even if the shipping is a bit more, but I don't take to the computer, naming names and and whining about it, or bang my head on the floor like a spoiled brat until I get my way. But, perhaps I come from a different generation, so I can't relate...

If Prices on an Item are identical, one place charges shipping the other place has Free shipping, where is it"Factored into the Price"?

I don't know.. I don't see that situation. People are in business to make money. I think most industries are competitive enough that huge differences will not be seen, but maybe some folks run their business as a charity. I don't know

I buy a lot from Amazon and find their free shipping to be fast enough and almost as fast as the paid shipping.

I ordered two small automotive tools from Amazon, total weight is about 10 lbs. That was a little over a week ago. Both were in stock and sold by Amazon and shipped USPS. Right now it looks like it could be here on Thursday. That's almost two weeks. Sunday morning it was in Mass. I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't pay extra for shipping but this is the usual typical super saver shipping times from them to me.

That was my take... Everyone has different prices. But to say that you're "mad" and "irked" and "THIS HAS TO STOP!!!" is overboard.... No one twisted anyone's arm, nor forced them into the transaction. I wish my biggest issue in life was how much someone was trying to charge me, VOLUNTARILY.

Let's look at one part: Hyd Filter for a Kubota L4200GST. Part # HHTAO-37710, MESSICK $42.87x2=$85.74 Plus Shipping, I'm sure total bill with shipping will be close to $100. Lashley $40.73 X 2= $81.46 and free shipping. Maybe there shipping isn't super fast, I don't know, but for that kind of savings I don't care, most of the Kubota parts I order are for a "another day repair".
My next parts order is going to the dealer with cheaper parts/shipping.

I can't argue with that.. I'm sure I'd do the same, and never being a businessman, I can't explain why that is. Maybe higher overhead in some localities than others?? I just don't know. That's really not what rubbed my fur the wrong way here. I just could not understand why another dealer's name had to be dragged through the mud, rather than simply state what a great experience was offered by another. No problems with that!
The great thing about the US of A is that it's a free marketplace. One can research a seek the best possible deal. We all do that, and no one's arm gets twisted to favor one seller over another. It's also OK to post if a person was genuinely treated badly or unscrupulously, but that was not the case here. And, as a disclaimer, I have bought items from Messick's, but I've also bought from other dealers in my area. There have been times I thought I might have been able to do a little better pricewise, but I'm sure not by much, and I always second guess my decisions. They've all seemed to do right by me, but I also need to remind myself from time to time that a businessman needs to make a living, provide jobs for the community, feed his own family as well as those of his employees, pay taxes to many different governments, hopefully make a few charitable contributions, and on and on. You get the idea. So, yes I agree, shop for the best price you can find. Charity begins at home, and we need to be savvy how we spend our funds.

There have been times that I've gotten bad deals or bad service. I go away, lick my wounds, and promise to try to do better in the future. I DON"T publicly trash someone's name over it, particularly if the deal was never even consummated. But... That's just me.
