The yanmar service manual on the 240 says to take the top out. i guess they you can take the ends off of it and press it out like a normal piston?

Even if it wasent back, once you opened it and the fluid came out it would then be at the back! Right, now im confused?

My 2002 is different than the 2000 but the piston, rod, etc are same design. The rod is attached to the lift crank with a spring pin. the design of the piston and rod end are such that even if the rod comes completely out of the piston it will align and go back in. If you remove ref 21 (cylinder head) there is nothing left to hold the piston in but friction. Although I am not sure I am thinking with the head removed by pushing down on the lift arms you might be able to push the piston out. I am not really sure of that since I had the whole thing apart I didn't try doing it that way. Yanmar Tractor Parts: HYDRAULIC_LIFT

I was thinking what you were after i typed my last responses. I did not realize that it was designed to seat it self back with the piston if separated. I knew nothing held it in though. Like i said i was thinking of removing the head and seeing where the piston was and either lifting up on the arms or having them go all the way down by removing them from the lower links to see if i could get it out that way.

Curious Winston, did you screw the lock out knob in on your tractor prior to doing this to see if it would leak down? Mine leaks down as you described, but when i lock my know out it dont move but a tiny tiny bit over the same time. This means the valve is the culprit, but there is nothing that really to mess up according to Aaron. I did remove it and put a new oring on the bottom of it where it meats the hyro top yesterday.

Yes, mine would leak down with the stop valve closed. However, I want to think it was at a slower rate. I do know since the new o-ring it has not leaked down any with the stop valve open.

Soundls like mine. If i leave the bushhog up and cut of tractor you can see it ever so slowly, and i mean slowly decend. If you tighted the knob it will "pop" as it lowers a fraction of an inch but still lowers just so slow you cant see it, you have to come back after 10 mins to notice it.

OK winston i got my top of the hydros off. How did you get your piston out? You would of had to taken both ends off the cylinder? I took the back off cause it looked like that woud allow it to rotate out of the cylinder but no. I going to go take front off now to press it out.

OH and the cylinder is full foward with the lift arms down.

It should come out the front.

Winston, did you see any notice-able wear on your piston O-ring? I noticed on mine it was kind of worn on one side. Not sure if it was the front or back? But it was not rounded like it should of been on sone side, kind of from a profile view if that makes sense.
