Flail Mower Older Mott of 2009 Land Pride FM2072

Hey guys and gals,
I thought I bought a JD 370 flail and after payment was made he wouldn't let me pick it up because it didn't bring enough. You gotta love ebay! Any way, I found a good looking older Mott and a newer 2008 or 2009 Land Pride FM2072. The money is about the same(1000), which route should I go? Or should I keep looking for another JD.

Reasons why to not shop fleabay, and buy locally.

Chech the gear boxes out, can make the savings disappear real fast.

I don't understand what you mean? What savings? I'm asking if the newer land prides are built like the old Motts? The Mott looks good but it is probably 25 yrs older for the same money. Which they are both around $1000. I priced a new JD around $5000. I think I could buy a few gearboxes for that savings.

of flailmowers for sale on the home page listings.

Mott mowers are Alamo sickle bar mowers, they trademarked that name. If you are looking at a rotary cutter, not worth going used. Flail mowers may be a different story, but make sure you can source parts for them.

I guess I didn't make my question clear, my bad. I'm asking How is the quality of the newer Land Pride flail mowers? I know the old Mott/alamo are like tanks. But 20 + years newer sounds good to me.

The Alamo Industrial folks bought the Mott Mower company name after the founders son
was killed in an experimental aircraft crash landing near the plant and the family sold out.

There were many many many good mowers that Alamo killed off in the Mott product line like the
walk behind flailmowers and the rear engine flailmowers mounted on the three point hitch
mounted integral flail mowers which used the 4 cylinder Wisconsin Engines.



Fail Master has lots of replacement parts for many new and older flailmowers.

It all depends on the number of side slicer knives it has-if it has 2 rows of knives the cut will be passable
but you will have ot make a second pass if the brush or grass is tall and it will not look very good.

I will admit I am a flail mower snob, but I have 4 rows of knives on
my flail mower and I will say it is equal to a reel mower in cut quality.

A Mott Mower with four rows of knives will work very well in heavy growth
as long as you go slowly on the first pass.

If this Mott Mower has the removable rear trash/chaff discharge door you will be in heaven as the mower will work even better as a mower.

The Mott Mower would be able to mow much better in my opinion
as it has more side slicer knives and can provide a better mowing
job in one pass if it has a flailmower rotor with four rows of mower knives.

Thanks leonz, that is what I needed to know. I thought maybe there were more knives on the Mott. What kind of flail do you have? I assume with 4 rows vs 2 rows it will require more hp?
