Both pilots had to have amazing control of their aircraft. Having been around a few pilots who many would say do "crazy" things as part of their work, to the outsider what they do looks crazy but they are in control. Most have excellent feel for their aircraft and know where every inch of it is at all times.

Sometimes things go wrong, yes, but thats the price when using a vehicle to its limits.
