X2 What he said. I can't believe anyone would think that would be the way to run a mower. Let alone a dealer.

it looks as if that dealer that sold him the package also sold him tghat line of BS on how to use it.

I repeat my initial advice.

Given the name Farmline, I suspect this guy isn't a franchised Mahindra dealer. They almost exclusively sell Kodiak implements at bonafide US dealerships, and Farmline is of Indian/Chinese origin. So I'm thinkin' your "dealer" might be a cowboy. How long has he been at that location?

I have owned a couple of RFM's, and have mowed for thousands of hours and of course agree with everyone else. The wheels are on there for a reason. Some RFM's are better than others, but the last one I owned a BEFCO was one of the good ones! It had wheels on all 4 corners and of course they were height adjustable. I am amazed by the lack of knowledge of some dealers.

Indian/Chinese, eh?
Maybe that's why the dealer told the OP:
"The stated reason was that it was too easy to break off one of the wheels and/or supporting rods if you go over uneven ground while the mower is riding on them"

Thanks much to those with the useful advice, specifically the anti-scalp roller. I'll try to find one and add it to the mower to save the lawn.

The dealer I bought from has been in business over 50 years and has been selling Mahiindra for 12, it's a family operation with long-time roots in the area so I thought I had 'vetted' them properly. I also thought the fact that they had shopped around and found a better deal on accessories like the mower deck than just selling Mahindra was a good thing, but this is a learning process so I'll take it as an expensive lesson learned. I'll just start using the wheels like a mower is supposed to be used, and if I break off a wheel then it will probably be time for a new mower deck and I'll hopefully know a lot more about what I'm looking for by then. I don't know if the wilfe will like the expensive red lawn ornament though if that time comes.....
