The first job that I earned money from was working on a neighbor's horse farm. The pay was $.50 cents an hour and I worked 10 hours a day on the weekends when Dad didn't need me. That was in 1963. My next paying job was as a Caddy at a golf course. I would ride my bicycle to the Pro Shop. The movies were $.50 and there was a balcony. If you had a date, the balcony was the place to me. Watching the movie was the farthest thing from one's mind.:D

My first job was a caddy at an upscale (rich guy) golf course. Must have been 1961 or so (I was 12 or 13). $1.50 for four hours of carrying a bag around 18 holes. If you were lucky the guy bought you a drink and a hot dog at the stand on the 12th hole. Yikes!

Yep, Mark, I've sure done that. And of course picked up pop bottles along the road to sell for 2 cents each.

Everything has gone up, those bottles are worth 5 cents now in Maine

Ever heard the term "Bottle Buzard" ??? That's what we called each other when looking for pop bottles.
The quart bottles were worth a nickel! WOW!

Side story, I heard a trucker tell that J B Hunt Tractors had a bicycle and rack on the back.
So the driver could look for pop bottles while waiting for his next load!!

I can recall when pop bottles went from 2 cents to 5 cents, real glass pop bottles. I was one of the 1 percent rich folks that Obama wants to tax.

Moss...are you kidding..? I ask because my Mrs. and I have not been to a movie theater in years...we have a big screen and Dish..Netflix..etc...LOL..make our own popcorn and the price is right...Anyway..my question is... I thought theater movies were all digital now...are they still using film ? Did you ever get to see the end of the movie ? Did you get a partial refund ? Are you mad ?:confused3:

Marshall Arkansas still has the out door theater. Have to wait for the sun to go all the way down.
Used to go in pick-up loaded with kids for the price of a ticket 2 bucks.then parked backwards so they could unfold the chairs and watch the show.
Most interesting show usually took place in the cars.

My Father worked in the mines and would go out during the day to fix cars that were broke down on the highway. People would give him 25 or 50 cents for fixing their car and that was the mad money for the weekend. They(3 buddies) would load up the car and drive from Wilkes-Barre to Barnsville(35 miles). They would get 3 flats on the way( each way). They would drink and dance to Benny Goodman and the rest of the headlinersa at the time. Monday daytime, they would drive home and go to the mine for night shift. Tuesday, my dad would start working on the money for the next weekend. This whole weekend would cost the four guys about 2.50 to 3.00 for gas, food, room and admission. This also was in the 1930's

I don't recall that happening here, but I do remember when the soda pop vending machines at our service station were modified to take 6 cents, a nickel and a penny instead of just a nickel, and then a very short time later they were modified to take a dime instead.

And before that, we were paying 80 cents a case (24 bottles) plus 50 cents deposit (2 cents per bottle and 2 cents for the wooden case) for all the soda pop. So at a nickel each or $1.20 per case, that was a pretty decent profit margin.
