Honestly I don't know how you guys do it, living in a constant fear of home invasion, armed agression, terrorist attack or dictatorship from your government. I'm not saying you're wrong or right BTW, I'm just wondering how I'd deal with this and can't figure it out. Before this whole 'gun issue', I certainly didn't view the USA this way, and many others outside certainly didn't either. Sorry had to say it, you can now go back to your regular programming :)

 Eh?

and mentally I'll people on anti depressants!

Yes. Semi automatic weapons and lunatics are a bad combo.

Not sure anti depressants have anything to do with it though. These are seriously ill individuals not just depressed.

Every mass shooting with a confirmed test in the last 22 years was carried out by a person on anti depressants, spin it as will, it's there in front of us.

It is certainly not fear, it just being aware of our circumstances. Sorta like having a umbrella handy when you see a rain cloud coming up. Nothing to be paranoid about, we just don't have our heads stuck in the sand. Ken Sweet

So now you gun "enthusiasts" are shooting at each other. Love it. Fratricide in defense of guns.
That was aimed at you in agreement with the following statement, which was all I intended to copy. The downfall of posting fom iPads. I agree with James.
I say the common factor were mentally disturbed individuals.

Sorry James!

Like others here I am prepared. If the power goes out I have a generator for backup. If a food shortage hits due to a natural disaster I have plenty in the pantry and a large garden. I have access to beef and pork. I have all the fire wood I'll ever need on my 40 acres, I have a log splitter, and a wood stove. I may fit solar panels to my house. So why is it so hard to believe that there are people who feel that they would rather not rely on the police to show up? I doubt (and hope) all I'll ever use my Beretta with it's two 15 shot clips for is target practice but it's always nice to be prepared.

That frankly doesn't make sense as you didn't even mention mental health in the rebuke to James. Besides, all of us believe mental health issues are a critical part of these killings. No dispute there. The dispute is whether banning sales of assault rifles and semi automatic handguns would be an effective deterrent to those individuals. If they cannot get their hands on the most efficient purpose built killing tools then whatever violent outbursts escape our mental health control efforts would be less deadly. Simple point.

I too would go full court press on the mental illness angle but that is unlikely to be so effective and quickly instituted that we can put all our eggs in that basket.

Just a quick query. Many correspondaents to this thread have religious beliefs that refer to a rule book called the bible. This includes a rule that "Thou shall not kill." There is no qualification to this rule. However many of you have no second thoughts about shooting to kill anyone that they think may be about to harm them whether or not they are running away "just in case they may turn around with a gun".

How can you justify these two things?

Note I am making no comment re the belief in the bible or whether or not you should own guns. I simply cannot see how these two things are not completely against each other.

Yes. Semi automatic weapons and lunatics are a bad combo.

Lunatics with any type of weapon makes for a bad combination, rifle, pistol, knife, bat, 2 by 4, but you can't legislate all of those out of the equation. We could improve our mental health reporting and treatment - but that wouldn't involve any bans, so it wouldn't be newsworthy.

I'm not saying that we lock up everyone with mental issues, just that we need to have better reporting and recording methods in place. But more importantly, we need to do more for them than give them a 72 hour evaluation, a pocket full of pills and send them back home, hoping they'll take their meds and hoping they continue with some treatment. Usually the next time the institution sees them again is when they've done something else that requires another 72 hour mental inquisition warrant

I'm not living in any type of constant fear, just like I don't obsess over my home burning down, but I have insurance, just in case.

Kinda like the old Texan who was pulled over by a trooper. The fellow told the trooper that he had a Colt 45 in his belt, that there was a 44 magnum in the glove compartment and he had a loaded rifle and a shotgun in the trunk. When the trooper asked him what he was scared of, the fellow told the trooper, "not a damned thing son, not a damned thing!"
