I am looking into registering my 24 foot 7700 lb trailer in Maine. I found a couple great websites with info.

I live in downstate NY and am looking for any negatives on this. As it stands I can save $100 per year, plus 70 bucks upfront.

Anybody have any info

Search Maine trailer plates. I have 3 registered there. Saves me about 12-1400 per year

I looked into it. At first I thought I could save allot of money. I think they even had a 12 year plate. After doing some investigating I found to be legal here in IL I'd have to register my truck for the combined gross of the truck and trailer. Or at least that was how it was explained to me. I'd like to hear from someone from IL that has done it or looked into it.

My utility trailer will be done with Maine plates this year. 99 $ for 5 years compared to 42$ a year.

I live in northern NY. I've got 4 trailers and 3 are registered in Maine. Instead of $75 per year per trailer, they're each $99 for 5 years. This is the outfit I've done business with every time: Trailer Registrations for Individuals and Fleets Countrywide - MaineTrailerRegistrations.com
Always replied to online inquiries and got back to me promptly by phone. No complaints whatsoever with them.
The only reason that I haven't registered the 4th trailer there is because it's all lettered and logo'd up to match my business truck. I don't know how true it is, but have been told that law enforcement might take a dim view of an obvious business truck & trailer having plates from different states. But who really knows? I have driven to Albany and back 2 different times (just over 3 hour trip) with 2 different trailers that have Maine plates and my pickup with NY plates. Saw lots of LE, nobody bothered me. Not even on the Thruway.
I bought a brand new dump trailer out of Massachusetts this fall. Using the MCO and sales receipt, Maine Trailer Registrations was able to get me a plate and mail it to me before I went to pick up the trailer where the dealer met me at Albany, NY.

5x10 utility trailer, in Ohio it costs 42.00 a year. Where is the heart of Dixie?

Thanks for the money guys, we need it :) I should write the governor, he's always looking for business.

I think trailers over 10k gross need an annual, or biennial safety inspection in Maine. I know my 12K used to, and I think the limit is 10K. Yours seem to be under that limit, so shouldn't be an issue.
