Guys-been away from guns for a while. Whatever happened to 22 Magnums?

The 10/22 magnums? They made 'em from '98 to 2006. I don't own one but they have almost a cult following that have been begging Ruger to start production again. I doubt that it will happen and I would guess it was a matter of sales...roughly 45,500. Compare that to the 5 or 6 million 10/22 long rifles which are still selling like hotcakes.

Are folks really having a problem getting .22 LR? My kids gave me a Henry Rifle for Christmas and I just wander down to the Hardware store in Ft. McCoy, which also handles some weapons, and they sell them at a reasonable price. They seemed to have plenty of them in stock.

In some areas of the country there are no .22 LR rounds to be had, Harrison Ar. and surrounding area is an example. I am not sure why so much hoarding is going on, but trust me it is. If you have .22 ammo, well, you can hoard it, or buy it and sell it over the internet, or whatever you want to do. If you have ammo, you are one of the luck areas.

I am partial to Leupold scopes also. I have five of them. For a .22 rimfire the Leupold 2x7 rimfire is the cadillac for me.

I only have three and need to get the one for my .22 and put the VXIII on something else. My son has a Mark4 Long Range Tactical MilSpec and I wanted one until I asked the price.

Buying another .22 is always a good idea but for Muskrats, nothing beats a shotgun with a load of BBs or an underwater trap. At the ranges they are usually shot at the shotgun poses no limitation and is much safer. I have a lot of muskrat and beaver at my place and population control is a regular occupation. Now that muskrat fur is about the same price as beaver I have lots of volunteers to trap the muskrat but none for the beaver:mad:

Marlin 795 semi auto with a Redfield scope. Great combo and 100% American made.

Another thought:muskrat pelts are going for $19.00,I used to sell them for $1.50 when I was younger.

A good gun for your job would be a .17 hmr or .17 hornet. You have less pelt damage and more killing power. I love my hmr.

I have a Ruger .22 magnum, model 97 I believe, but it's a lever action carbine. Never been fired, but if you want something to the 10/22 with a little more umph, this would be a great alternative. Sorta luke warm on the rotary magazine, but it's ok I guess. I have a little Browning take down 22 LR auto that has a tube magazine that loads through the stock, had a scope mounted and it is awsome. Very small and lightweight.
