Dirt Moving New 6040 owner question, dirt moving

Our back hoe is an old one and you can bog it down just like our tractor. Our M8540 doesn't bog down, it just starts digging holes and we use 4WD, so if I haven't already stopped my engine doesn't die, I just put it in reverse and get out. I have never had much luck getting a full bucket in 2WD unless the material is really loose. Your results may vary though. As mentioned, you will discover what works best for you.

The big difference is I could hit a pile with the case bh and it could come to complete stop and drivetrain was designed to keep running although forward movement had stopped. I tried the 6040 out and it seems to stop the engine when movement stops like a regular gear tractor. Tires will be loaded so will try to do scooping in 2wd and tires will probably have tendency to spin before engine stops but I also figure it will just prompt me to shuttle into r pretty quick.

I need mine in 4wd or it's pretty useless when backing up, i don't have issues with stalling just spinning the tires try setting the hand throttle up around 1500-1600 rpm. As you go into the pile you will probably have to give it more power.

I have adapted to how the machine works. I just ordered a tooth bar to make digging in my hard clay easier it does it but stresses the loader a lot without the tooth bar

Lol Same here 3 or 4 holes depending on weather your stepping on the diff lock. On loose soil the tires dig at the rate of about 4-6" per revolution of the wheel. In mud its measured in feet per rev. Does not take long to bury the front axle.

Yes i have rim guard about 2-3" over valve stem, and usually at least 1000lbs on the 3point. A full bucket of weight clay weighs somewhere around 3000lbs on the 84" bucket

Lol...thanks triple and the rest of the gang. I grew up using tractors with no fel, but we did have a 580C TLB with shuttle so I have some experience with that lever on side of steering wheel. I thought the larger bucket would make up for the loss efficiency but will see how the capacity and extra hp work together. As for transport distance, it will vary as we just started a project on six acres to house my wife's two horses and have all kinds of stuff that needs doing. Many thanks

The backhoe you were using more than likely had a torque converter transmission, which is why you could push into the pile and not bog the motor down. About the only similarity to that and the hydraulic reverser trans in the M6040 is the ability to change directions without stopping. They will function differently in most other regards.

Pics of the new rig. Dealer just put the canopy top, loader, hydraulic top link and loaded the rear tires. Next is the box blade. Gotta replace my woods 66" then will be ready to move some dirt!
