HS students suspended for disarming gunman

A lot of factors on why he was suspended. Apparently he was uncooperative with the investigation and even so, when there is a major incident like this it is not uncommon to suspend a student pending the investigation. It's not like the kid is going to have a record. He will be allowed to make up the schoolwork. The mother is probably blowing it all out of proportion and went to the media so she can get a lawsuit. I don't know for sure, I'm just throwing in my 2 cents

The article says the kid was suspended because he refused to cooperate with the investigation.

What is more odd, is that the kid with a gun one school bus, who tried to shoot someone, is NOT suspended. :confused3:

A kid got suspended for wearing a USMC shirt that has crossed rifles as part of the emblem. A kid who tried to shoot other kids is going back to school? :confused3:

Later,
Dan

I see no mention of that in the report. "The kid who wrestled the gun away can go back to school Monday"

The suspensions were "emergency suspentions" and quite reasonable pending time to sort out the incident. It would not have been just the one student but everyone involved under that emergency suspension.

Or does everyone think that it should hve ended on the spot and all involved proceeded on into classes?

My first reaction was the same as the others "WTH!!?". Given time to reflect the suspensions were the only reasonable thing. I note that there is no mention of how long the suspensions were for.

According to the referral, he was suspended for being part of an "incident" where a weapon was present and given an "emergency suspension."

It looks like a "cooling off" period. This way they can find out what happened and make sure there is no retaliation.

I'm sure when the Police showed up, they found out what had happened....They sure didn't arrest the the kid for disarming the other. No doubt they got statments from everyone on the bus, including the driver, to ascertain who was the problem. I cant see any reason for anyone's suspension, bad guy went to jail.

Maybe the "disarmer" was a bully that the "armed" kid finally stood up to.

 And yes, I'm just pulling that outta my nether-regions. The poster that mentioned the three sides to every story is right (imo). It will be interesting to see exactly what went down.

Stupid is as stupid does. The town should clean out that school board for allowing this to happen. If the teen was part of the argument that escalated into the fight, then this suspension may be a good one. The school says he won't cooperate with the investigation. There may be more to this than what it looks like, but it's obvious that to all the parents who didn't have bury their children this teen and the others who disarmed the idiot with the gun should be rewarded and regarded as heros.

What Jim said......

I noticed where kid was suspended the other day because he ate his sandwich into the shape of a gun. Actually it looked more like Idaho. This is where we are now. Wow.

The way I read the article, he was sticking up for a 3rd party.
Being a former LEO, I understand the 3 party concept, but most good officers can figure it out pretty quick after speaking to witnesses (as far as the immediate task at hand) They arrested one, that says allot .

I'm sure the school as an automatic policy for situation like this and enforced it. But IMO, in a situation like this, the "good" kid should not have been punished and some kind of common sense concession been made.

Yep.

Who knows? (yet)

not sure about all of you, but I never saw a suspension as very punishing when I was in school.

Suspensions when I was in school were extra holidays and I treated them as such.

I believe this suspension for the good kid sends him a message. Don't get involved. Look the other way, I saw nothing.
