Maybe I am getting old or something myself but I just don't see enough difference to mention. Outdated? I think that is a buzz word invented by sales people to sell more stuff.

I know exactly what you mean by personal preferences and opinions. I bought my X740 in November after having seen the looks of the new X750 and being apprised of the specs of the new series. I thought that the older style looked better and I did not like some of the specs of the new series (weight loss, metal fender deck, tier 4 compliance, etc). Although I agree with Steve, there really isn't much difference.

Those knobby tires are awesome. I guess that's the mid point between a turf and an ag tire. Unfortunatley i don't think they available for 3x20 tractors

You hit it right on, BigMike50. It's all about personal preferences and opinions.
Although I like the former hood styling better, there are several new features on the new Signature X700 Series that have me holding out for a X758. Although I will admit, if I already owned an X748 the new features would not be worth trading it in for. Both are very fine GTs.

Every time I go out to use my X740, I look at it and I think to myself, thank goodness I managed to pick one of these up before they were gone! The new machines look like they were handed over to some teenage kid who likes Honda civics with fake hood scoops taped on and a fart cannon exhaust. I mean really, a hood scoop, on a garden tractor?! The hood on my X740 is big, square, and straight. The new hood is very rounded, small, and just, overdone.

I can't say it enough times, thank goodness I landed a 2012.

I like the simple clean lines of the older model. I'm sure the paint shade difference is just a photo issue. There is something very attractive to me about JD lawn machines with the contrast of yellow and green.

In the photos, the decks sure seem different. On the X748, the deck is flat over the spindle and looks like it has a drive-over pad so you can disconnect easily and drive over the deck. The newer X738 has a bracket over the spindle that I think would be a challenge to drive over. However the trailing links from the front axle to the deck look more beefy on the 2nd model. The anti-scalp wheels and structure look about the same. Aren't the new decks made of lighter weight materials? To me, the deck is the heart and soul of a great mower.

don't mean to sound like a party pooper but aren't you the guy that started an accessories thread adding stuff like this. mud flaps and curb feelers and hubcaps and such. Just sounds like a contradiction

Jim, The 748 shown is not a drive over deck. The 738 is a drive over and that is why you see what you refer to as a brackret over the spindle. Notice on the 748 you would be driving over the top of the belts. Drive over/ auto connect deck on the 700 series is new for 2013. The anti-scalp wheels are the same, but the spindal/shaft that holds them in place is different. As for drive over decks : 4x4 tractors, You drive over with the front wheels to connect and back off to disconnect. 2 wheel drive tractors you have back over the deck to connect and drive forward off the deck to disconect. Reason being, Without 4 wheel drive the front tires would not go over the deck and only push it forward like a wedge. The new decks are 9 ga. iron and the other you may be thinking of is 7 ga.
