When i started farming from scratch on a 1/2 section of bare land 25 years ago I build a 32 x 16' addition to the mobile home, a 42 x 32 x 14' workshop and a 32 x 32' barn .(handbuild all the rafters for them as well) using only a handsaw for sawing everything including the plywood.
I had a brandnew skillsaw but the thing burned out on the first rip i made,in disgust i grabbed the handsaw and never looked back.
I still use a handsaw today if i have to build something, i also use it when building furniture.
My brother gave me a new skillsaw a couple years ago(he is a commercial contractor), i seldom use it cause i can't seem to make a square cut out of hand with it.(i hate the noise it makes too)
i use/buy only saws with hardened teeth and just buy a new one when they get dull, they last a long time cause i'm only on my third saw.
