I re-pea-ted my garden today.:D My blackeyed peas were beat up by the hail and two freezes. They just could not recover fast enough to make leaving them feasible. While it is still early in the planting season, I just decided to till in the old ones and replant. With the weather warming and rain on the way, it seemed like the best approach. My snow peas and sweet peas seemed to not suffer as much from the hail and not at all from the light freezes we had. My Bush Blue Lake beans were damaged by the hail. Some plants were snipped off right at the ground. The other bean plants were a bit 'stunned' by the freezing weather, but not so much as to kill them. They have recovered nicely and are starting to really grow. I replanted the rows where there were gaps over 6" between. The only thing I have remaining is to replant my okra. It has just refused to germinate and grow with the cool April temperatures.

So, my garden is all tilled and weeded. It looks great considering what it has been through so far. The plants are small, but healthy. I'm glad to see April in the rear-view mirror. Now, I'm just hoping May doesn't go the other way with a heatwave. A couple of weeks of mild temperatures and a shower of rain would really get things going fast. I'm waiting until the plants are a little bigger to show any 'bragging' photos.;)

I had to replant a row and a half of my okra. All sprouted 8 days after original planting, but the last frost got about half of it.

Still calling for rain, Wednesday night. Maybe I'll start dancing about 5:00pm, and see if I can get the rain to come my way! Might turn cooler later in the evening/night, and don't want to get too cold. :D

I'm gonna wait until after the next cold snap and then plant okra. Normally, two 70' rows will half fill our freezer and keep all our friends and family happy too. My wife makes the best no-meat okra gumbo. It's not vegetarian because she uses chicken broth, but it is one of my favorite meals with cornbread and a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce not too far removed. Washing it down with a cold beer makes it the perfect meal.:licking:

I sure hope you folks are right about rain on the way. I put a fresh coat of Sherwin-Williams Deckscape sealer on the patio this morning, so it should have plenty of time dry real good before Wednesday. Now I've got to mow again tomorrow.

Cant believe I'm saying this, but the rain here is a PITA:laughing: I know in the "grande scheme" of things we need it, but maybe Brandie can share with us up North:D

Wife said my Okra is about 2" tall right now and the snap beans are "going crazy". Most of the 1st flavor of corn is 1-3" now and the second (Kandy Korn) is sprouting. We have been watering almost every other day, or when it feels dry down to 2-3", with the wind and dry air, it hasn't took long to dry out. Once I feel the roots are all going good, I will cut back on the water. Our squash, zucchini, Melons (****** too), cucumbers, peppers onions and tomatoes are going strong

I'm always telling my wife about something Jim says or does and she remembers him from our get together at TxDon and Karen's place where he cooked fried okra battered with Drake's mix. She says it was the yummiest fried okra she ever had.

confession: I only like a small amount of okra in cajun shrimp gumbo. I grew up in a house smelling like okra, squash and homegrown tomatoes sauteed in a skillet all summer long...It really smells if you don't like it. Not even sure why I plant a garden. Calling this years garden a "Hot sauce" garden. Maters, onions, cilantro and jalepeno. I bought a "Mild" Bonnie's Jalepeno plant so I can break my kid's in easy hopefully. Anybody tried one of these yet?

Jim, forecast show you dipping down to 36˚ Thursday and we are getting to 45˚. It looked like we were going to get flooded this evening but after it dumped on Kyle it fizzled and we got nothing again. It was so close I could smell it.
