Heaviest load rated 17" tire?

NO not "as close" but AT the sidewall pressure listed for the capacity listed. If you run door jam pressures on a tire/truck that is near its limit, you will likely continue to blow tires. most are 80psi

Wrangler SilentArmor LT285/75R16 "pro grade" whatever that means is listed by tirerack as having a 3750 max load. It also lists a tire weight of 59lbs which is a good 20lbs heavier than most of its other sizes. so there must be some extra steel/rubber in it.

That's a 16" tire. The LT285/70R17 is rated 3195.

Toyo has similar ratings for their Open Country AT.

You could change over to 17.5" commercial truck tires. 215/70R17.5 or so is a very stout tire which will outlast any light truck tire, but i dont know about its speed rating...

same exact problem as switching to 19.5" tires. its like $600 a corner and the OP doenst have that money to spend.

If these are 250's, you are exceeding your 6000 lbs axle rating anyway with the E rated tires.

What about trying to lighten up the trucks? Are there tools and supplies that you could remove?
It's funny how much stuff we carry around in our trucks that weigh a ton and are not regularly needed.

Yes, switching to 17.5 or 19.5 would be too expensive. But if he were to go to the 3750 lb Wrangler SilentArmor Tires Goodyear Tires or Open Country A/T II Toyo Tires that others have mentioned in 16", the rims could be had quite cheap at salvage yard and you would have quite a few more tire choices available. That's assuming the 16" will work with the brakes and hubs of course.

I think he said he's only looking for more margin of safety, not to overload the axle. If he's only at 90% load on the E's that's still well under 6,000 lbs on the axle.

I was going to suggest the 17.5 Lowboy/Lift Axle tires.

I've never really understood the difference between ST and LT rated tires, but it looks like most of the the trailer tires are also 17.5" tires.

I never have liked the extra width of duallys, but that would always be an option too. You can convert 3/4 ton pickups to duallys, but it may mean a new axle, bed, and etc. Perhaps best to trade them in.

Ford puts a narrow axle on their Dually trucks, and a wide axle on their Dually pickups.

With some mods to the fender wells, perhaps you could fit the narrow dually axles on the pickups with only adding fender flares. That is, if you don't need the full width bed.

Of course, too many changes and you can spend a bit.

I'm seeing the 37.00 x 13.00-17 super swamper is rated at 4200 lbs, but it is a pretty big tire. They're recomending a 10" rim.

Having towed tens of thousands of miles with several trucks and trailers I can tell you with 100% certainty that if you get near the max rated load on tires they will blow given enough time and 100 degree + days make it even more likely. I f you can get beefier tires where you are only at 50% of load rating or so they will last forever.

If I was going to buy different wheels I would just get 19.5's and be done with it but I don't want to spend that much now.

I gave up on my search and just bought some more regular E-rated tires.
