Our overall garden is 48' x 48' with around 36 tomato plants. We plant lots of green peppers and sweet corn because wife freezes both of those. She found some way to freeze the Juliette tomato (small Roma style) so that accounts for six plants and many of the others are big slicers. We are in our mid 60's.

We succession plant onions, beans and edible pod sweet peas and I put in about 400 glads to brighten things up. We save the corms from year to year. There's also basil, cilantro, lettuce, spinach, beets, lots of onions, a couple zucchini and some cukes. I think that's it.

What do others do for garden size and how many tomato plants do you put in?

Ours is about 30' x 100' and typically we are around 40 tomato plants - approximately half being regular tomatoes and half being Amish paste - an oversized Roma for canning. Also have a few cherry tomatoes. In addition to this we ahve strawberry and asparagus beds for our needs only.

In the garden we plant just about everything but sweet corn - have had a lot of problems keeping our friendly racoons out of the corn so I quit trying. The other issue we have had is with the squash bugs on the vines. We want to keep it organic but those squash bugs frustrate me.

Due to the deer, we have to plant on our elevated patio. We use large wood planters and 15 gal tree nursery tubs. Generally 15 tomato plants. No caning just eating and giving away. Last year we discovered or the raccoon discovered there were yummy veggies at the top of the 10' steel posts holding up our patio! Now I use dish detergent to lube the steel. They can't climb it until it rains again.

Do you just put straight detergent on the post?
We use 16 ft cow or hog panels and keep the deer and most raccoons out that way.

We have broccoli, cabbage, onions, spinach, beets, radishes, Swiss chard, potatoes, water melons, cantaloupes, silver queen corn, sweet peas, squash, green beans, Lima beans, 60 tomato plants - homestead, better boys and early girls, cucumbers and four or five varieties of peppers. All of this is in a 75x125 garden. My rows are 100' long that gives about 12 feet to turn the tractor at the ends in side the fence.

To control deer, ground hogs and raccoons I have a 7' tall high tensile wire electric fence. Some of you know I am a believer in a double fence to keep deer out but I don't have room for a double fence for my garden. I use a 12volt fence charger and I have a fleet of marine batteries for the garden and food plots.

well my garden is 60' x 40' and in the past years i would have aroud 22 tmater plants. down sizing this year will only have about 10. i have a seperate garden for my taters i will plant 100 lb of seed taters this time, thats half what i planted last year. we have had a real problem in the past years with drout in the middle of growing season and our only way to water is from our well that supplies the house, so we decided we needed to try and not use it for watering the garden. i have 2 springs but there in the moutain and it's alot of time and work hauling water.i have not planted the first seed yet, was going to plant some monday but the weather not looking good for that.

About 20' x 32' for the last 4 years. Will be bigger once I clear more land, but that won't happen soon due to too many diversions. Normally 18 to 24 tomato plants. We'll be canning tomatoes this year for the first time. I also grow butternut squash, which keeps until February or so- it's one of our favorite vegetables. Plus a few green peppers and some pumpkins for the chickens.

Today I plan to till a very small plot for my 4 year old grandson. He lives next door and loves to work in the dirt. We'll plant some bush cucumbers, beans, a tomato or two for him to start his growing career.

The garden is 40 x 40. It is enclosed with picket fence. Inside the fence, we have 8 8x12 raised beds. One of those beds is all tomatoes. 8 plants in all. One bed is herbs. One is corn. One is still in potatoes and onions (but those are about ready to harvest. I have a bed of peppers, and two in flowers.

Blood meal works well on deer and rabbits. Don't know about raccoons though. Takes a while for the dogs to get used to it. If you have a dog that likes to dig I wouldn't recommend it.
