Food Saver Vacuum Pack

That Handcrank Pump would work just fine and he's using the FoodSaver attachment. I guess using that pump would be good exercise, although some of us might not have the strength to pump it long enough.

I looked at that video before buying the FoodSaver. I was hoping I could find a cheaper and better alternative. After watching what that guy was doing I figured I would get Carpel after sealing a few jars and what ever money I saved by using this solution would be spent going to the doctor.

Looking around, FoodSaver does have a handheld battery operated unit.. Suppose to be used with the ziplock type bags..

Do you guy's use your vacuums for freezing veggies such as squash and zucchini?? Or do you use the blanch, chill and freeze method??

ZipLock also now has their own vacuum machine that's supposed to be similar to the FoodSaver. And I've already found I can buy the genuine FoodSaver bags cheaper at Walmart than ordering them direct from FoodSaver.

People actually KEEP squash and zucchini? YUCK! :vomit::vomit::vomit: :laughing::laughing:

SWMBO does eat those yellow and green icky, mushy things but not me. :D:D:D We never have any left over to preserve though.

So to answer the questions, No and No. :p:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Dan, I didn't know there was anyone who didn't like zucchini and yellow squash, and if you don't want them to be a little mushy, just chop them up raw in your salad. Of course, I also like them mixed and steamed, as well as sliced, dipped in egg and flour and fried.

I use ours for nearly everything I freeze; have not used it in the past when freezing roasted Hatch peppers, or okra, but I intend to in the future. Have not used it for fruit, but mainly because fruit is so wet and juicy, but also because we don't freeze much fruit at all.

Even fried I don't like them. They are eatable when fried but I still would rather just leave them for someone else.:laughing::laughing:

2lane mentioned okra. I love fried okra but boiled okra is just flat out nasty. Picked okra is good but the mushy factor can make it icky to me. I pickled some okra a few seasons ago and I need to go throw it out since it is too mushy. It is hard to beat that Texas brand of pickled okra.

We started just vac seal and freezing everything (getting lazy?) and not blanching except tomatoes she still blanches them to get the skin off before freezing (we dont vac seal them)and we can at our convenience after that. I certainly would try squash that way too though if I grew any.

Corn and beans and peppers and asparagus are about all we did this way and so far its as good as the long procedure so no complaints whatsoever.

I usually don't even blanch mine first, depending on what they might be used for later. Sometimes I do, and I label each feezer bag as to contents, and how prepared, as well as date.
