Everyone is showing their garden so I guess I can also.. These are pictures of the garden at the land. I have two garden areas that I use,, I alternate every year or two.. one is fence and other is not.. also some pictures of the garden at the house I grow tomatoes, pepper hot and sweet,, cactus plant I don稚 care for them to much.. but there is a lady that love them she comes and takes them,, it was here when we purchased the house.. The only reason I don稚 cut them down is the flowers very pretty and the old lady that take them.. :laughing: ps.. one of these is my garden guard lizard.. Lou

Lou, that black soil sure does grow some nice veggies. Your squash (zucs?) sure does look huge and healthy. Are those blackeyed peas? How many bushels did you make off of that or is that this year's crop? I would dearly love to have open and relatively flat blackland soil like you have. I'd probably kill myself with gardening, but I'd die with a smile on my face. Very nice, sir!:thumbsup:

Dennis, for watering, I use flat soaker hoses. Harbor Freight now has them at a great price. I connect four hoses to a 4-in-1 expander, also from Harbor Freight. I know a continuous drip system where I had one emitter for each tomato plant would be better than these hoses, but I just run the flat hose down the row under the mulch and turn it on for a good soaking as needed. It worked pretty good on those pepper plants, didn't it? Also, I till in compost and peat moss plus 13-13-13 fertilizer for each tomato hill. All this is worked into the soil in a 3' diameter area so the plant can suddenly find 'heaven' when the roots start growing. It's a lot of work, but preparation pays off in the end. Not everybody can have naturally fertile blackland soil like Lou.

Lou, those are some serious gardens!! I'm with Jim about that nice "flat" dark dirt too!!! Raised bed is the nicest I've ever seen too:thumbsup:

Jim, THANKS!! That seems simple enough even for me!! I dont think I want 1 "emitter" for each plant, seems I would have to worry every year if I got the seed in the wrong place (if I understand how they work correctly?) I do the "till in fertilizer" also, used to use allot of bull S, but since I dont live near a dairy anymore, I cant find any (except on the Kabota threads!!:stirthepot::rotfl

Dennis and FG19: Do you cage your pepper plants? I've had lots of problems with my pepper plants being snapped off in the wind and I've even had many pepper plants grow 4' tall. I cage mine like tomatoes to protect them.

I cage mine, but mainly to keep the dogs freom stepping on them and breaking them when they are still small. Just easier to leave the cage on them, and helps keep them upright, when they are loaded. Mine usually have pretty thick stalks, but a little help is never a bad thing.

Lou; Your garden looks fantastic! And if someone wants prickly pear, they can come here and dig all they want. Somehow, I manage to hit one or two each year with the brush hog, and so have a hard time getting rid of them. :mur:

Only way I've got rid of a few was a total dig, (cant loose one piece). Dry and burn

The aphids on my sugar snap peas are drivin' me nuts! I just treated with insecticidal soap and Spinosad last week. Sure, we had a little over 1/10" rain, but I didn't think it would wash off all my "stuff." Well, this morning I was looking at the peas and noticed the leaves were wet and sticky. I looked closer and the aphids were again in full residence. So, I needed to water and fertilize too and chose to apply liquid MiracleGro. As I was spraying the plants and ground, the ground became covered with little green bugs. I was so shocked I called my wife to see it. I've always heard that spraying plants with water is a great way to knock off aphids, but this was like aphid genocide (I wish!). Anyhow, after applying MiracleGro to all my peas, I came back with my pump-up sprayer and soap to clear out any survivors. I am really gonna have to keep my eyes on these peas. I love them and so do the aphids.:smiley_aafz:
