I have my outdoor faucet in front of my house. With this summer's monsoon season I just want to rinse down my brand-new tractor to keep it in decent shape as well get the mud off. But I don't want my front yard to be a mud pit from the water and stuff coming off the tractor.

At some point in the future I'll run water to outbuildings and stuff below the freeze line.

What I'd like to do for now is just run a 100 ft regular water hose out about 75 ft out in a trench so I don't cut it while mowing but am not in front of the house making a mud pit.

I'm looking for a trench about 1 1/2 wide 2-4 inches deep. I'm thinking about taking a T-rail fence post and strapping it to the backhoe to dig the trench.

Dors anyone have a better idea?

Trenching shovel? It's such a small job that it would likely be finished in less time than rigging something to the BH. Cheers

Won't that hose freeze this winter splitting the hose being buried so shallow? I just roll up hoses myself after use, no hose reel. Heck a hose reel at Lowes is $30 or so.

Yep, hose reels are a bit expensive, but I've got 3 of them. One has a 75' hose and the other two have 50' hoses. And I'd rather do that than put a garden hose in a shallow trench. In fact, digging that trench is going to mess up the lawn a bit itself.

I have this Hose reel (~$50.00) with about 150' of hose. It take about a minute to reel up the hose. I would not even consider burying a hose compared to the ease of pulling out and retracting a hose. :2cents:

This is just for the summer and so I don't have to pull it out every time. My wash area is around obstacles.

Add in that at the end of a long day I don't really feel like dragging out a 100' of hose.

Burying hose, meaning cover it with dirt? The dirt is going to collapse the hose, limiting the amount of water (if any) that will pass thru it. If you drive over the area with a tractor, I know it will probably collapse it sooner or later.
I think your adding problems that your going to hate worse than stretching out a hose...

time = money / wasted time = wasted money. i would just rent a small trencher for an afternoon and burry 3/4" or 1" PEX tubing.

I'm interested in the subject too - have been thinking of running a line down to the garden just for summer use. Blow it out with compressed air in the fall and keep it dry to avoid freezing.

The hose reels never seem to last and I don't like the clutter on the porch. Anything that helps my wife spend LESS time in the garden ;)

If it were me, I'd run PVC instead of a garden hose, although there are also some newer plastic lines that I have no experience with. And the newer hose reels seem to be a little better quality. I've only had to throw away one in the last 7 years and it was actually more my fault for breaking it.:ashamed:
