My brother has Comcast and never hits the limit. He does EVERYTHING via the web - TV, movies, games, work, everything.. and @ 50Mb sec

Talk to your new neighbors and ask what works best for them. Satellite is marginally better than dial up. And when cloud cover is heavy during a thunderstorm or snow storm satellite TV and satellite internet can take a time out until the clouds thin a bit. We only have dial up and satellite available here. We were advised against Hughsnet. The neighbors said that Hughsnet service after the sale was little or none. We have Dish TV and Dish internet. Service is excellent with Dish. Most time Dish a tech can solve problems over the phone. If not they have always had a service person here the next day. Even on weekends. Still I think advice from the new neighbors would be the best advice of all. How things work where we live may not work as well as where you are moving to. There is a difference.

Have you searched up Motorola Canopy or Ubiquiti services in your area? They are a really viable alternative if available. I have a Ubiquiti Rocket 5M service and I could not be happier (well, I could, I could be back on Cox, but that's not an option here). No data cap, and as much bandwidth as you're willing to pay for, subject to signal strength.

These providers are harder to find but they're out there.

With Dish [or digital cable] you can only watch/record one channel per receiver. Unless you get the new Hopper system. I have heard good things about it, but haven't switched yet. There is still too much old stuff on our DVR.

I don't know what a Hopper system is, but I have a 6 year old Dish HD DVR that will record 2 channels off the satellite and 1 channel OTA at the same time. I figure the new systems are even more capable, but the one I have meets my needs, so haven't done any shopping.

Dish has been provided good service to us since 1998...upgrading into and through technology advances as HD came on stream. Our internet is CenturyLink DSL which has been satisfactory.

dmccarty - We had a CenturyLink tech show up in about an hour after reporting that our original modem died. But since getting this new combo modem/router, we've also had to start resetting the it on a weekly or more basis.

You do need a line of sight to a tower. "Wireless DSL" is a bit of a misnomer; the industry usually refers to them as WISPs (Wireless Internet Service Providers) to distinguish from all the other forms of "wireless" and "broadband" out there. It is not satellite. It is direct microwave (lately moving to the 5 GHz range, but also in 3 Gig and 900) from a fixed point, usually a mountain or tower.

There are a couple shown in the Rome area but I know nothing about them: Brightlan, Commnet, are two names I searched up pretty quickly.

We do have Dish. Their internet is the Exede version of Hughes. I believe it is better than the earlier Hughesnet, but reviews are mixed, at best.

Running Bell Sympatico Highspeed DSL. Only reason for still having a land line to get intrbet service, otherwise, would not gave a landline at all.

Not exactly true.. I have the 722k HD DVR and you can record 3 channels and watch a recorded one (or streamed) at the same time.. The 922 is the same with Sling added to watch your DVR over the net. The hopper I believe can record 6 channels and watch 2 at the same time.

My DVR receiver may be older. It is a duel and only covers two channels. I have another duel upstairs, but without the DVR, and an old single in the bedroom hooked to a DVD recorder. I do need to update my equipment. When my wife has three show to record at the same time, I have to go upstairs to the library if I want to do any live TV watching.
