Landscaping: Rocks around my pond.

Bob, that's especially true in drought areas with tepid water in ponds. We've decided that the low lake level and lack of rains means our grandson needs to go to the public pool if he wants to swim. No more swimming off the dock until we get some fresh water circulating in the lake.

Been there done that with Rip Rap. Used FEL, one front wheel over the edge, then the Deere went for a swim! Had to call a wrecker to pull it out.

Careful when dropping a tractor in a pond/lake the paint eating bacteria can eat the green paint, (but ONLY green paint)
Hope your tractor didn't sustain any real damage- what size model went in the drink?

4300 and luckily it was stopped by the muck before the engine went under so no damage. Had algae on the paint but couldn't see it.

The rocks look great, LD. Are you putting any landscape cloth underneath?

No cloth. Will just keep the round up sprayed

7th and final load of rocks.

Should have it finished up this afternoon. Guessing approx 14 tons in total to do the 500' around everything and a little bit around the discharge of the overflow culverts.

The wife is really happy with the way it looks, and now I dont have to worry about getting too close mowing, so I guess it was a good idea, even though it wasnt exactally easy work:mur:

Where are you getting your rocks from? Are you buying them or picking them from a river bed or something.

These are picked from about 3 different rock piles. There is no shortage of farmers with old rock piles around here. These are from my grandparents old farm, and a couple of local farmers I know.

All free. They are glad to have their rock piles getting smaller for a change:laughing:

Funny thing though, I always see ads on c-list of people selling these rocks. And asking upwards of $100 a ton for them. Like a 200# rock, that one person can barley lift, $80-$100. And most of the time, the ads just show a hillside or something with rocks scattered out that you have to get to and load. So basically, someone with a bunch of rocks on their land, you clean it up for them, and pay them a TON of money for it:laughing:

Well, this is what ~2 tons of rocks did. Got about 75' around the side. Only another 425' to go. So it looks like at least 6 more 2 ton truckloads:mur: I was initially guessing 10, so I guess that aint bad. But alot of work loading and unloading and placing by hand.
