Great link bcp, thanks.

Now I'm wondering what those original Jeeps were tow rated for - that dozer can't be light.

I bet that dozer is under 5000# including the trailer. You also have to remember these Jeeps only went 45mph and were geared so low they could pull about anything with the 50hp they had like a tractor.

I've read descriptions of the front wheel bearings in those Jeeps - definitely overbuilt - more like how we think of tractors today. Post-war, I believe there were light ag implements marketed to use with that era of Jeep.

That single axle trailer has me thinking..... :hypnodisk:

Dang, 68 octane gasoline minimum for the old Jeep.. Wow.. I don't think I have ever seen anything less than 85. Must have been some lousy old gas back in the day:eek:

Actually the dozer on the Clark tilt trailer was well balanced over the single axle permitting a low speed tow across runways, roads etc. The gliders had limited cargo weight would be my guess. :D

Good gas is a big part of how we won the war. It made our vehicle's run better, our airplanes faster and fly higher, our boats quicker, ect. At the start of the war the fuel was awful but by the end that had all changed.

Its not always muscle and front line solider doing it. The nerds back in the lab can play just as big of a part.
