Rental Update...

Went in this morning to rent a Bandit Stump Grinder for 3 hours for $195 incl $20 damage waiver and as Jose' was hooking up the trailer to my truck he called the ower and I asked if there was a problem...

They couldn't let me leave the yard because the current year registration sticker was missing from my plate.

It's a real problem here and I have lost several even when using a blade to slice em... people go through the parking lot at work looking for stickers... especially folks that can't get vehicles registered because smog or fines...

I knew it had been taken and already paid for next years... so I wasn't going to pay for a duplicate with only a couple of weeks left.

Seems crazy to me since they had my license, business card and credit card...

Decided to save the money and just cut the stumps flush and if I ruin a chain or two, I will still come out ahead.

They did offer to deliver and pickup the 8 mile round trip for $150

You couldn't just show them your registration card? How foolish of them.

On the way home, work called and said there was an area wide power outage and asked me to come in...

If I had rented the grinder I might not have been able to use it.

I'm an occasional renter... if I need something more than a few times I buy.

Thats crazy! Where did you rent from, the POLICE impound yard! On a serious note, that is sad you have to keep replacing your stickers due to thieves, really a shame.

I have been "slashing" my license tab stickers with a blade a few times once installed. This prevents the entire sticker from being reusable.

I once worked at a rental yard and the only person we turned away was a guy who wanted to pull a 11,000 pound mini excavator/trailer combo with his Dodge Dakota.

This evening I checked the company website and no mention anywhere of vehicle registration.

Do need a major credit card, drivers license and proof of insurance for vehicles.

As to the sticker losses... 3 on two different trucks in the last 7 years.

The new thing is thieves are taking the entire plate.

Last summer in the Hospital parking lot I noticed a family... man, woman in a folding chair and two small children changing a tire on their older Honda... what I did not realize is they were systematically stealing all the tires and wheels from another Honda... the victim said her husband had just put on a new set of Michelins two months ago...

Crooks are getting very bold and often not much Law Enforcement can do...

As for the stumps...

I used the backhoe and dug down around the 36" dia stumps and cut them flush with my chainsaw... I've got 3 chains that now need sharpening... much less expensive than the stump grinder and I will just cover what's in the ground with 6" of dirt...

Texas started issuing a windshield sticker several years ago. Used to have to put a plate sticker on cars and trucks, still do on trailer plates.
