Want a new laptop but do I want Windows 8?

Did you know apple OS runs over unix. Have at it, but that maybe way to much for you, you have to really know computers to work there.

Nope. OS X (not Apple OS) underneath is based on a BSD derivative which is pretty far removed from the original BSD that did share a code base with Unix many years ago.

And, yeah, I'm quite certain that Dennis does know this.

I have a question (if you are still here). Do you own a Mac and are speaking from experience (like we are) or are you speaking from hearsay - which in not credible in a court of law much less this forum?

Well... one option as I think I mentioned before that could satisfy many as it did me... is to go Apple and install Parallels Desktop software and then you can run whatever other OS simultaneously (even more than two at a time). This is what I did but I ended up uninstalling Windows 8 and went back to 7. Now whenever I miss Windows (or have to run a program that is only windows based) I can get a dose by performing a simple swipe of the touchpad to go between OS's and it is lightning fast.

Wow! you can do that on an Apple!? That way you have only the best of both. Can you also do that on a PC?

I read most of the posts for and against windows 8 but no one asked what you use your computer for?? I have a laptop with 8 on it and have had no complaints at all,, I have DSL hookup and came stream most everything with ease,, I find 8 very simple to use but I only surf and play games,, No touch screen here either,,

Yep... piece of cake! Easy to run Windows on a Mac...Simple software available at: www.parallels.com

Not easy at all to set up Mac OS on PC. Lots of BIOS/CMOS set up and success is spotty. I haven't tried it. To give you a taste of the difficulty: How to Install Mac OS X on a PC (Without Using a Mac)

my goal is to surf the net, send email and that's about it for most of the time. I need to package photos for business and occasionally listen to Youtube music. Still, I don't want any complex learning curve. Also, I would like to assemble an album of photos and then set it to music with the two synced at certain moments. Not very complex things.

The iPhoto app is very nice for organizing photos and pretty dang easy to learn and enhance photos and put into albums. I have moved all of my photos into this app and categorized them. Of course there is lots of software that can do this but it comes with the OS on Apple. I say go to an Apple store or Best Buy and have them show you a Mac before you buy anything... PC or Mac.

I would suggest you keep the windows 7 unit you have now. It will do all that and much more.
Microsoft is supporting windows 7 until 2020.
