After my wife, I would have to say Sourwood honey is my favorite.

Sadly though, I just found out from one of the local bee keepers that the sourwood crop this year is about 10% of what it was last year. Apparently drought in some areas, and significant rain in other areas has contributed to a smaller crop for all honey.

So what's your favorite kind of honey, and how is the crop in your area this year?

We have a local friend that we buy our honey from. I like Sourwood and they have a lot of Sourwood trees around their home. Although the Sourwood this year is a little darker but not a dark as clover honey...and I like clover honey too!

Really lite clover honey -- early in the season after there has been plenty of rain.

I tell the wife that the standard by which all honey is judged is clover honey. She (an Arizona native) insists orange honey is best. What is best probably depends on what one grew up with.

My in-law's bees seem to flourish mostly with tulip poplar blossoms, probably some clover too. It's good!

Yep, reb, I agree. Clover honey is the standard and while I don't think I ever ate any honey I didn't like, clover honey is what's in the kitchen right now.

Yep, it's hard to find bad tasting honey. The best tasting to me is whatever I harvest. I do like comb in it, and unfiltered.

Chinese honey which has the pollen filtered out so that it is untraceable has hit the American market. It has illegal toxins in it and made its way here by way of Canada. Laundered, so to speak.

What does the comb add to the honey? Taste difference?

We have a local guy who sells honey and we got some recently. pretty good. He mentioned he has some with the comb in it, and wondered then just what the difference is.

I'm not sure what the comb adds as far as nutrition, but I always liked the taste and texture myself. When I was a pre-teen and into my teens, we had 7 hives, so I had a bit of experience working with bees and harvesting honey, but I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore.
