Don't leave vehicle running

On our 2007 Explorer Sport Trac, I have to double check that when in Park, it has actually clicked in by pulling-pushing on the shifter. Often times I will here the lock click into place only after I push-pull.

I don't know if it would slip into Reverse or not if I didn't make sure is was locked. Don't want to find out either. I am guilty of pulling into the driveway, putting it in Park and not setting the brake, to get out and grab the mail from the box.

If it were my driveway I would have claimed the perp was intending to cause me bodily harm, threat of deadly force use, ( the truck) to run me down, and I fired in self defense. Castle defense. Case closed.:thumbsup:

I thought the guy was driving away from the shooter. Not exactly case closed. I'd say the shooter is going down.

Most of the letters to the editor agree that te perp got what he deserved, long record of juvenile and adult offenses including auto theft. Daddy, of course, doesn't agree.

Vigilante justice isn't. Even slime get a trial. Otherwise none of us are safe or protected by the law.

My intention was as a joke, BTW.
Though any of us might see things differently if it was some 'slime' as you put it, stealing our car/truck out of our driveway, no?

Emotionally I agree with you but the lawful penalty for auto theft is not execution. If we live under the rule of law it goes both ways. I'd rather live with auto thieves than self appointed vigilantes. Read the Ox Bow Incident.

Spokane has a city ordinance making it illegal to leave an unattended vehicle running due to the prevalence of auto theft under those circumstances.

Oh sure.. make it the victims fault.. Whats next? Cant wear 'revealing' clothing? This is why I dont live in Washington...

All kinds of drivers have left an automatic transmission vehicle in drive or reverse and left the vehicle because it was stopped.

As a matter of fact, I was distracted by my grandkids trying to run off tonight that when I tried to hit the 'engine stop' button, it wouldnt. A chime and warning on the screen told me the car was still in Drive and would NOT shut it off. It does indeed happen.
