Trailer tires will likely hold siting still... will blow in the turn comeing down the hill at the worst possible time.

I have an f250 superduty diesel with 20' deckover trailer that would be feeling that load of 8k lbs. If you had a better trailer I would concider your venture with your truck but light truck combined with light trailer is a recipe for distaster. I say dont do it.

tylertown,
Use a rollback truck, probably $75 to $100 for this, fast easy and cheap. When I was younger and dumber I hauled a Deere 450 dozer between farms about 10 miles with a 71 F100 pu. Boy was my dad pissed when I showed up, and I was physically and mentally drained too. Life is too short for this crap, use a roll back and save everyone's life. That was on hywy 98 too and some of those so called insignificant hills can be a train wreck when everything is overloaded.

Congratulations...... I'm thinking one of 3 things happened....

1) Not an 8,000# machine.

2) 5,000# or more axles.

3) You must set off a lot of metal detectors in airports, given the amount of horseshoes you have stored you-know-where !

Next, buy some lottery tickets. Even better yet, buy me one !

If he was right about the trailer being about 1200# with two 3500# axles the end capacity of that trailer should have been like 5800#. So he was only overloaded 2200#. I'm sure the tongue weight was probably a whole lot too lol. Class III standard is 500# TW. Class IV is 1200# standard TW. So yeah it all sounds like a terrible idea to me too.

Some questions for OP to see what you really got away with...

1. What class trailer hitch do you have on that rig?
2. Can you confirm what axles are actually on that trailer?
3. I see you have bigger AM rims on that truck too.. What class weight rating are those low-pro tires?
4. My last question would be what weight class tires are on the trailer as well?

I'm curious to see how much you pushed it..

+1

Success didn't make this a smart decision. Sorry OP, but that was a selfish, dangerous act....you put everyone else on the road at risk by knowingly running a trailer 2,000lbs+ over weight.

Besides the axles, were the tires rated for that load?

Seriously, why even ask for advice when you're just going to do it anyway???

Just a note,
Tylertown is from Tylertown, (SOUTH) Mississippi, or there abouts. No doubt he was going to attempt the trip even before he made his mind up. Happens ever day down here. Sorta like "getter done" or "work with what you got". Now if it was Impossible, we might have thought twice before doing it. Ha!

Reminds me when I towed my tractor home and decided to look how much it weighed afterwords...

7-8k lbs on a light weight car hauler with 1500 chevy that had 210k miles on it....

As with you, it did it just fine (lucky) but not a smart move on my part. I should have known better when I loaded it and it lifted the back end of the truck up off the ground! I did have a weight distributing hitch but clearly overloaded the trailer by at least 3k lbs.... duel 3.5k lb axles plus 2k lb trailer should't have been towing more that 4.5k lbs payload by my estimates....

I will never do that again.
