A friend sent me the link with the following attached.

850 HP vs 18 HP Ha! NO CONTEST!
Anyone off the farm, or on the farm, will enjoy this!
An 850 H.P. John Deere diesel vs. a steam tractor rated at 18 H.P.
It's all about torque and traction. Enjoy.

Like Murphy said the attachment point of the chain has a lot to do with it and weight is the other. What does one of those old steam engines weigh? I would guess a lot more than the other tractor. Very cool video though!

HP is simply the rapid application of rotational Tq. Put another way, you can have 10,000lb-ft of Tq ad zero HP while breaking expensive stuff.

HP gets the credit for what Tq makes possible.

The new tractor looked like it was 4wd. Like to see that pull with the front locked in... didnt look like anything but 2wd was used. Reguardless... cool vid.

neat video, using the JD for a plow!.. but as said the pulling chain was not level, and of course the steamer outweighs the JD by a bunch, especially the way the weight is distributed on the JD. If the JD had kicked in the FWA I bet it would have been different.

I'd like to have seen it too...but I bet the results would have been the same.

Yeah I doubt the results would change much whether the JD was in 4wd or not. I'll bet the steamer weighs in the neighborhood of 30,000 pounds. You might just as well hook that JD to the back of a CAT D6.

Did you guys read the YouTube comments?

One guy said he couldn't tell if the Deere had a Chevy or Mopar in it. I thought that was funny.
