changing open diff to limited slip for ice and snow

You are no longer the master of the One Wheel Peel :D if you've got rubber and $$$ to burn its much better to put down two patches of rubber instead of one

I have put down 2 patches of rubber many days/nights. I once owned a 1969 Hemi Dart drag car

s. I agree with you guys how much better snow tires work but I can't see affording the expense if it is 50ー and sunny one day and -14 F and windy the next. Its almost that bad here. Realistically Sunday it snowed and was -14 till after Tuesday morning. More snow and ice till Friday and today it melted and and is now 35F. Sucks so bad. I was going to purchase two snow tires this winter but did not because everyone told me with the scattered weather it was a waist of money. I was recommended to purchase two cooper discoverys but never did because my rear tires have 10/32 and my fronts are 9 and 11(one is newer than the other). Wanted to add weight but couldn't figure out much. Wanted to get 4 or 5 used 80 pound a piece semi truck drums and chain them down incase of a sudden stop. Work would not sell or give them to me

I will think about adding studs but those are illegal around here. I'm not too worried about legal issues but what about pavement issues running them on straight pavement? We have a very scattered winter here

James, good video those Bridgestone tires work well especially at low temperatures.

Just so you know, I have nothing against LS differentials. I have both electronic traction control, and the G80 "gov lock" in my truck. I think these things can be very useful, especially when one wheel is stuck in a mudhole and one wheel is on dry land. I just think you will benefit much more from the winter tires, or studded M&S tires with what you have.

Now, If you had 4WD with LS rear. That would be a different story. My 2500 4WD with locking rear (when shifted to 4WD) is a different animal than a 2WD with LS

Snow tires on all 4 corners are the only way to go for winter. Below about 35 degrees, the softer rubber grabs way better and the snows on the non drive wheels keeps everything going the same way at the same time. All the wheels roll or slide at the same time giving more predictability to your drive. I have "snow tires" on my work van and can not believe how much better it drives. I now have snow tires on our personal vehicle for the winter.

I've been a Posi traction/limited slip guy since the 60's. I'll take them over an open gate any time. I won't buy a car or truck without them if it's available.

Everyone raves about having/using differential lock on their tractors, but talks it down on their road vehicle?

My experience On a 4WD truck great. My experience with 2WD , I didn't notice any real difference .. My tractor is 4WD and Diff lock is great. I have no experience using Diff lock with 2 WD tractor

Most of us didn't say not to get it but this is more of a case of having turf tires and trying to drive in the soft ground. The diff lock is pretty much useless. Put R1s on the tractor now the diff lock might be useful but you probably won't need it. Last spring My neighbor could not get his tractor in 4wd with turfs up a hill in the woods behind our houses. i climbed the hill in 2wd without the diff lock. Then pulled him out with a chain. I used 4 wd to unstick him not sure if i needed 4wd but i had it so i used it
