Yes, you can, but why wouldn't your buy off-road fuel in the first place? Isn't there a lot less paperwork involved? For example, if you buy 25 gallons of fuel for your boat, you'll be able to get $5 back.

I would if I had two tanks (one Diesel and a reg) and had the need (farmed)

I am at 150 gallons in the boat for 4 months, 50 gallon tank, over 12 months it could add up. partially, it is the principle, I don't drive my boat on the highways, so why pay the road tax! I would rather someone with a big ole Ford truck pay that:D

I used to buy farm fuel, but it has been so long, I dontt even know who round here delivers it.

You have bulk tank(s)?

Ron, of course we have southern hospitality, but every-once-in-awhile we just have to rub in our good fortune with mostly mild weather and perfect weekends. Check out this forecast.. So, while you are out there shoveling snow, we'll be outside in our t-shirts, looking for some of those snakes you posted about earlier.;)

Jim,
You got it right about the temperature, although we had a mild week this week. It is plunging now and maybe 1-3 inches of snow by Sunday but I doubt it.

It is strange... One of the reasons I got the CNH with 4WD was for snow. I used to have real problems with the old Ford 2WD on our hill that faces North and doesn't get any sun in the winter.
It must be the new blue Case/New Holland, Fiat or whatever you call it, but I have not had to plow snow since I got it 3 years ago. Less than 3" of snow we just run on it with our car and truck with no problems.

I LOVE that blue color paint..:D

Dennis,
I don't know how it is in TX, but up here you usually don't save the entire tax amount per gallon with farm delivery.
Years ago we did when the supplier was an independent BP dealer. He sold out to a big company a few years ago. Same driver and same truck as before but with the fluctuations of diesel at the pump they are even a couple cents higher at times on home delivery. ( Usually just the time I need it:confused2:) Of course you have to buy a tank too. Mine is 177 gallon, lasts forever, but they have a 150 gallon minimum unless you want to pay a sir charge. Gets a little iffy at hay season as I usually have a little left so I might have to do some quick other projects to use it up, before cutting hay.
Great service though and just sticking the nozzle in the high tank on the back of the tractor and lettin her run sure beats trying to hold four 5 gallon cans up there to fill up.

No, I don't have my own tank. . . yet. I have hauled fuel in 5-gal containers for years. With my TLB, it's a piece of cake to fill from the 5 gal tubs. My compact tractor is a bit harder because the fill neck is behind the seat at the top of the fender level. I am seriously considering using my forks to lift a 50-gal drum to my pickup bed on a pallet. With the amount of fuel I use that would work fine for me. I can also drive my tractors 1-1/2 miles to to the nearest station, but they are a bit more expensive that the nearest Walmart.

As far as the tax refund, if I read the rules right, you have up to a year to apply for your refund. You can apply once-per-year to reduce paperwork, but have to keep records/receipts.

Jim,that is how I read it too:thumbsup: Have you considered a tank/tool box for your Ford? I had one on my last work truck 98 gallon and looked just like a tool box, top opened with full 5" tool area. Find good diesel prices (Best I find is always Decatur $3.54 Monday) and fill up the big tank, unless you can get the red diesel.

Ron, when we had 376+ acres, I had a 500 gallon Diesel tank and a 250 regular, so I got some pretty decent fuel deals. When Texas changed to the Red dyed farm Diesel , it was cheaper, but then I couldn't put it in the stock hauler....legally.

The tanks where on the place when we bought it and brother, you don't know how nice it is until you can pull up to it and fill the tractor and back to work.

Sure is  I would not do it any other way.

The diesel is dyed here and is actually diesel supreme just like used in home oil furnaces.
All the blending is done by them and I have never had any water in 20+ years.
I always jack up the back of the tank which is elevated on long legs, so the last 5-10 gallon comes out into a couple
5 gallon cans. Never any dirt or water in it.

Dennis, while I would love to have a Ford wrapped around my Cummins diesel, it is a Dodge. I have never owned a Ford pickup. I've considered buying a fuel tank for my pickup, but only on rare occasions would it make sense. A 50-gallon drum will last me three months or more. If I bought fuel weekly, a tank with pump would be on my short list.

My bad Jim, cant believe I slandered ya that way, a Ford!! chute man!

55 gal drum with a hand crank pump would work too, I remember as a kid, my grandfather and uncle would fill up the D8 that way.

BTW Jim, have you grown potatoes much? I haven't in over 15 years, but now I have been told we are going to grow some reds. Mentioned I had seen the seed potatoes at the feed store and am gettin wrangled into it. Question, If you have, when did you plant?

IIRC I usually planted like the last week of Feb or 1st of March??
