Building a Portable Welding Table from Scrap Metal

Goodafternoon, TBN!!

So, a little while back I set out to build a low budget, highly portable welding table... I budgeted $200 for the build, and this is what I came up with:

Part Two:

It's got 8" rear wheels, and smaller casters up front... I used scrap 1/2" plate for the top, and I also used the lessons I'd learned from building my previous table to improve the design of this one...

Among these features are:
-Rectangular sub-frame to resist warping of the tabletop
-Expended metal shelf
-"BAR" storage system for clamps and vise-grips
-Overhang for clamping

This is a build I did for individuals who are newer to welding, and dont yet have a good work surface... I started out on the floor, and then "upgraded" to a flipped-over scrap bin with a mesh top. After way too long, I finally build a 3x5 table although I now wish I'd done a LOT differently, lol. Anyway, hopefully a person could take some inspiration from this design and could build a nice table for less money than they could purchase one...

Lanse you done a good job on that table. When and if it warms up this year, you'll have to give it a coat of paint.

I just watched 8 of your videos and now I really want a plasma cutter. Thanks for posting your work. I think they are like the steel equivalent of the Yankee workshop I used to watch on pbs.

Lanse's video's are geared more towards beginners and hobbyist's as lanse doesn't have a lot of experience in the welding trade. They are informative but don't show the upper end of what can be done. The New Yankee Workshop was hosted by a master craftsman with many years working in the trade. Now if Shield Arc were to make video's showcasing his projects and talents, then you might have a more equal comparison. Lanse is very smart and has a passion for welding. I'd like to see him take advantage of his schooling and talents and look at getting a welding apprenticeship.
