make soap out of it.... since it is used fry-olive oile.. might call it McCastile soap. ;)

One of Margie's friends makes lye soap. She tried lard, but now she uses Crisco. I've used the soap for several months and really like it.

Depending on the amount and frequency, make diesel. You'll get soap, glycerin and diesel.

When all other uses are exhausted, I'd think it would be fine in a compost pile since it's a natural vegetable product. That's awfully expensive compost, though. It seems lots of good ideas have been suggested.

I hear that processing cooking oil as biodiesel is not just a matter of filtering and pouring it into the tank, or say Ph correction alone. I learned a lot from these folks about the extras and processing. DudaDiesel - Biodiesel, Chemical & Solar Supplies, Alternative Energy Store

Lamp oil for the patio sounds like a risk free use, but one might have to put out extra munchies if a kitchen-like aroma stirs the appetite. :D

I'd hesitate to compost any oil, and not just for impurities that it might bear. IIRC, even bacteria used experimentally to produce oils or fuels aren't cultured in oil. Things that gather mold usually compost ok, but mold in/on oil is likely growing on its contaminants.

Makes a great quench for hardening steel, people use others but olive is the best according to many smiths I know.

We always filtered through cheese cloth put it back in the bottle and stored in refrigerator growing up. Would use it for a couple of weeks then change it out. Cut out a lot of expense. But growing up we used a fry daddy 2-3 times a week. If switching from fish to fries or chicken we always cut a potatoe in half and fried it first to remove any unwanted flavors.

I would not try the pour it in the tank approach, olive oil is good lamp oil tho and seen a youtube video where they cut an orange SKIN in half (peeled it like a bowl & peeled it so the center core stayed in the half skin.) Filled it with olive oil and light it like a candle!

We also filter our oil into bottle and put in refrigerator, usually use canola & peanut oil for deep frying and only use olive oil on veggies & sauteing or braising foods. I do like the taste and flavor but my GF does not handle it so well... Might could make a good soap with it especially if it has some dissolved fats from chicken or other meats in it!

What about salt in it? Seems like that wouldn't be good for diesel, lamps, or leather, etc. But hey, I don't know much.

that's why I'd soap it. :)

I make all my own soap now. havn't bought commercial soap in about 18m now. can even make layndry bars.. etc. scented stuff.. etc...
