I rode my bicycle for an hour outside today. Less ice on the roads where I live than 2 weeks ago. More ice on trees though. I gather there are people getting more weather than Covington.

Live oaks and pine limbs are popping off. Sounds like a dove shoot at my house. I just trimmed all the live oaks, oh well, the limbs are closer to the ground now.

Yup!
It's out there making havoc now, We awoke to about 3" snow here this morning, it was a fluff snow we couldn't even build a snow-man, it wouldn't pack, went back out a couple hours later and I could see it melting from the ground up,
it was beginning to get sloppy, now at 4:00 pm it's sleeting with temps into the mid 20's and the tree's are icing over,
It will be dark soon and It's sure to start it's damage over night.
us folks here in Ga, are never ready for this stuff, and you would know we sold the RV last Fall, It was self contained and we could had easily put up in it comfortably for a few days,..... But Yesterday I did make some preparation, got up some fire-wood, got the generator up to the house,10 gals of fuel, cut some stiff legs to go under the quick-carport,( help support it under extra weight load) cleared the snow from the gate, My wife been cooking up food all day, so we ain't going to starve,:licking:
Now to let Cabin fever set-in,
Thanks /Pine for your concern... You be safe as well :drink:

Thanks /pine. They showed I85 near Greenville, on the news. It's usually one of the busiest roads in S,C. and I only saw two vehicles on the cloverleaf.

Good luck to all in the path of the bad weather. Stay safe!

Rick,
That snowplow is great. Did the other thread give any details about how it's powered? It looks to have been a front engine vehicle, at one time.

Hate a dang ice storm! So far in the NC/VA piedmont area it's pretty much all snow @ 21 degrees. Hope it stays that way. Good luck to all those where this will be mostly an ice event.

Its about over for us. Maybe a bit more ice tonight. I went outside 3 times today to clear the cars windows, to keep the ice from building up too much. Power stayed up so that made the day good :) and I did not have to drag out the 8 KW generator to run the well pump and refrigeration. We had enough sleet over the initial ice layer that driving could have been doable, if one had to get out.

I was raised in Iowa many years ago, so this is not that big of a deal to me and all of my vehicles are AWD or 4WD. Most Northerners who look at how we are shut down with a couple inches of snow and some ice must just snicker... When my sister was here some years ago from Iowa, I saw the puzzled look on her face at the sign posted at each Interstate highway bridge. Goes something like this: " Caution, bridge freezes before the ground" or something similar. I explained to her that you have to tell us southerners this fact of nature... She had a laugh out of that. :)

So for you Northerners reading these posts, we just are not equipped to deal with this kind of weather and most folks just can't drive in it, even with 4WD. Recall the Atlanta fiasco recently? They learned their lesson and this time around the streets and highways are pretty much deserted.

Going to be a nice weekend around here with temperatures ~ 51 degrees or so.

Yeah! and I wonder who will take the credit and pat themselves on the back for this? the credit should really be given to all who stay at home and off the roads, ;)

The storm started this morning and ended late afternoon, glazed everything over. It sounded like a gun battle this afternoon as all the pine limbs were breaking off. I'm staying at a golf course in Pawley Is SC boy do they have a lot of clean up to do on the course and neighbourhood. See ya'll later, from the low country.
