Table Saw

I have a stunning array of feather boards for routing and milling...lots of clamp jigs to hold the feather boards for down pressure against the table and typical against the fence setups...

Again for safety...the most dangerous person in the shop is someone that can distract (in any way) someone operating power tools...

well....maybe you are the most dangerous person in the shop....for being distracted no matter what...life is full of distractions, whether driving or operating machinery. just continue your safety program no matter what distractions you allow in your shop. :)

I actually cut my rt index off at the 1st joint on a Craftsman 10 table saw. I did something stooopid. Luckily, the MD was able to reattach it. Its partially numb forever but not a big deal. I was happy that all the damage incurred. I would have been too embarrassed to try to sue. In fact, in 62+ yrs, I finally engaged the services of a lawyer for the first time. And that was when I sold a home. I have all usual suspects in the workroom, routers, planers, drum sander, belt sander, drill press, compressor, sawzalls, 77, circular saw, roto hammers, demo hammer, radial arm, chop saws- -and more that I cant recall. They never do any harm unless interacting with a live person

Have you ever received one of those class action letters? It's all a lawyers get rich scam.

First of all, you probably didn't even know you were in the class. Second, they make it very time consuming and lots of paper work to remove yourself from the class. 99.9% of people aren't going to take the time to do it.

So, eventually you get a check for $1.98, and the lawyers are making millions.

gotten a few of these...one for Facebook even. Remember when they were sued for using our pics in ads?
Anyway, one I was sure was a scam so much I did nothing....then a $3,000 check arrived in the mail.
Still believing this was a scam, I had an attorney look over all the paperwork. It was legit and proof that if you are part of a Class Action, you don't need to jump through hoops so most are scams.

By the way...Personal Injury Lawyers...well I have mixed feeling about them, but if you ride a motorcycle in NY...you better have one you like because if you are hit by a car...you are not covered under insurance. You have to pay for all your operations and medical expenses - the bike...that's covered, but not you. Once you are done with your operations - then you have to sue them to get your money back.
Took me three years!

The number one cause of car accidents is not a criminal that drove drunk, sped or ran a red light. Distracted drivers are the top cause of car accidents in the U.S. today. A distracted driver is a motorist that diverts his or her attention from the road, usually to talk on a cell phone, send a text message or eat food.

the same basic cause (distractions) applies to power tools...

I've been careful (and lucky{knocking on wood}) and have never lost more than fingernail due to a power tool...but I have come close on a few occasions and they have all been due to taking my eyes off my hand(s) and a cutting bit, blade etc...always because something (a distraction) made me look away...

My only point was/is...it is prudent to eliminate as many distractions as possible...and one thing any power tool user can do is make sure that family members etc..etc...have been informed that it is dangerous to disturb, interrupt etc. someone that is using a power tool...

I don't car how many times I repeat myself on this issue...if just one reader tells his better half not to walk into his shop with nothing on it may prevent a trip to the ER...

FWIW...
A friend of mines wife is a friend of Norm Abram's wife...I heard that his real shop (not the one on TV) is a disaster...tools piled everywhere only to be outdone by the number of started (unfinished) projects piled up...
Well then Norm and i have some things common, Wife, shop a disaster and lots of unfinished projects. I hate it when a tool isn't put back. :hissyfit:

Hey neighbor (I'm in Gainesboro), and welcome to TBN! :welcome:

I gotta ask; just what is a "77"?

I think the 77 is the classic Skil brand worm-drive saw. Correct me if I'm wrong. That's a legendary tool. I have the Makita version. Hard to use a sidewinder now, they feel backwards.

I do believe your right. The first one I used was a 77. It went missing many years ago and got replaced with a Makita. Makita was lighter but jerked more when starting.
