Propane Cost???

Kentucky is nice, I have a sister who retired near Lexington. She loves it there. Tell your neighbor that Illinois also doesn't tax Military pensions. They didn't tax my municipal pension either. And believe me Virginia was never ever on my radar, its the land of the very rich or the very poor and not much in the middle. Thought about KY,AR, NC., but ya never know what life throws at ya. Thanks for the reply.

Personally! Propane is increasing in price too fast my furnace is getting on the old side when it goes I'm putting in a heat pump with a wood furnace backup! Which I already have. Seen propane go up too fast.

I wish wood was an option... too many no burn days now to depend on it.

Plus, billboards in winter with anonymous tip lines to report wood burning.

No burn days? Never heard that one.

As luck would have it...

Both in my part of Washington State and my part of California issue no burn "Spare the Air" days.

Anyone caught wood burning is subject to escalating fines and in the SF Bay Area... there are over 20 regional smoke police.

It's ironic because I have plenty of hardwood from storm damage... saw and splitter and several cords of seasoned oak that I can't use when it's cold.

Also have a low emission EPA cat stove that was installed with a permit...

Spare the Air

Well, one of the Alternatives is Natural gas. Yes, I KNOW, No one has it available. Well I guess back in the 1930's that was the same story with electricity. From what I have read the mutual feeling was "who was gunna PAY for it". Well it got ran out to the rural areas (My folks old place) and that got people back working and the installation WAS paid for. I say let's get the distribution pipeline in the ground even out to the farms. In my area We got poultry farms with barns and dairy farms with barns and even some mint growing farms with boilers to distiller the mint oil, and corn farmers (they need to dry corn) AND residents for home heating that sure could use the natural gas. It would take some of the load off the Propane users and some load off the electrical grid. We have Fertilizer plants locally that depend on Natural gas for the base stock as well. It seems the government wants to ship our Propane and Natural Gas (LNG) to other countries that will bring in quick big bucks to the big companies while we're all shiver'n in the cold. Lets dig some ditches and get the pipes in ground and keep the gas AT HOME. AND YES, this is a RANT. bjr

I went to the home and garden show this past weekend and talked to some geothermal and solar folks. Too bad geo is so dang expensive up front, even with the tax credit. A solar roof system would be about 15k after credit and the system would make 650 kw a month. That would take a big chunk out of the monthly use and would offset power outage days. I called the township and gas supplier and they have no plans to run natural gas lines out. Does anyone use radiant floor heat as sole source of heat? Would still have to power boiler somehow. I am still leaning all electric with solar and a wood fireplace.

Have a neighbor he is retired from the military and from Indiana. He says he didn't move back to Indiana because Kentucky and Florida are the only two states that don't tax military pensions. So he moved close enough he could drive to see his family when ever he wanted.

I would checkout what ever state you are thinking of moving to before you pack up though.
No hurry to pack it up yet but we might start looking soon.

WOW.Same thing here I have offered free wood to folks to heat with and NO TAKERS.Maybe when they get there propane bills things will change.LOL

People must be earning too much . I had 20cords of white poplar in tree lengths skidded to a landing and piled up that stood there so long it rotted , Cant give wood away unsplit .
