I found this ad on craigslist.

I'm looking for a used rake with wheels for spreading gravel and topsoil and a rear blade.

Don't know, but these prices seem high.

I have a Cat 1 700lb 3 point hitch>

THREE POINT IMPELLMENTS

Used rakes with gauge wheels are pretty rare. If you want it, better jump on it. Looks good enough in the photo. Those rakes should weight about 300 lbs or so.

I actually have a York Rake TA-1 right now that I had towed behind the old Sears Lawn Tractor.
Part of me hates to give that up, but I'd prefer one I can hook to the 3 point hitch so I can raise it.

It is hard to make a pile if you are just pulling. The only problem I see is you are going to waste another 100.00 trying to find a cheaper one.

Oh, I am sure I want the one that will mount to my 3 point hitch. Not sure what you mean by waste another $100 though?

Can you spin it around to push with it and not take it off the tractor when you do that? Longer booms allow that

I have a 5' Woods rake I got at an auction...Think I paid $250 + the auction fees and taxes...

I priced OEM gauge wheels and IIRCC...they wanted close to $400 for wheels and related hardware...

I have asked the same question on several "rake/wheel" threads and have never gotten a real answer (or I missed it)...

Are gauge wheels of any benefit when mostly using hydraulic tilt to keep the rake parallel with the working surface?

Another question for rake/wheel users...if you change the aggressiveness of the rake (adjust top link) do you also have to adjust the height of the wheels?

/pine

I spoke to my farmer neighbor today about various attachments. He agreed, a landscape rake with wheels is ideal for fine grading be it gravel or topsoil.
He too felt the price was good as well.

And yes, wheel kits run $300+

As for your other question....no idea.

Don't profess to being an expert. The wheels have to be raised if you want the rake to dig. And they set the digging depth. The advantage of the wheels over using just the lift is that the wheels will keep the rake teeth at a set level even if the tractor is at a different angle on varying terrain. The wheels let you level a soft/loose surface without concern for terrain. I think the wheels are a must in order to get maximum utility out of the rake.
