Backhoe Deciding whether or not to buy 260 backhoe for mi 1025r john deere

Hi every one
I told the sailesman ok for 1025r John Deere on friday and to give me the week end to decide on the backhoe.
I am leaning toward getting one but would like input on how well it will preform.

It will beat a hand shovel all to heck. Beyond that, I cant comment much, but due to the overall weight of the tractor, don't expect it to be like a heavier/larger CUT or commercial backhoe for sure.

We have a 2013 1025r filb w/ about 70 hours on it so far & half of that or better was backhoe use. It definately beats pick and shovel especially for us older folks. It may not have the reach and power of larger models on bigger machines but it has been worth it's cost for us in what it can do. Add a thumb and it is great for lifting holding and loading large and awkward items like logs stumps and rocks. Things to watch for during use include a somewhat twitchy boom rotation which needs a light touch and a leak down rate that means you need to have the boom parking pin in place if you are going to travel any distance (or frequently pull boom & dipper back to parking position) to maintain ground clearance especially if traveling on uneven ground.

I have had the 260 on a 2305 for almost 7 years, estimate I have about 200 hours on the hoe with no issues. Its a small hoe, you are very close to the work as it does not have much reach, I have to be careful not to shower myself with whatever I am working on and does not have a lot of power. Even with its drawbacks I love it, cut way back on pick and shovel work. I have pulled giant oak stumps and boulders as big or bigger than the tractor, have built several roads and trails on my very steep property. It just takes patience and time, it's a small hoe but will do almost everything a bigger one will do given enough time. Mark

I have one it digs slow but sure. Surely easier than manual labor.

Thanks for the advice Nick, I am decided and geting the hoe ,can you let me no what brand of thumb you are using.
I have seen them on large escavators they are the real thing for picking up things.

I got it from Bro-tek as a package purchase that included a ripper. The thumb is mechanical and uses a cat 2 toplink for positioning. I posted a thread about my acquisitions here:
