Thank you, all.

I'd like to apologize for my absence. I am very consumed with helping someone with healthcare issues at the moment, and have not had the time to do a proper response.

The short answer is, the auction ended, ("0 bids"), proving, IMO, that opinions here were correct.

The sub-50hr-service, gray oil filter killed it for me, based upon the threads of a number of L owners having large amounts of machining "swarf" sucked up against their oil filters. If I owned one of those tractors, I wouldn't be so happy, but since it seems to be a lot of them are like that, and they are Kubotas, after all, :D I would try not to let it bother me. However, the idea of that swarf possibly sitting there, with who knows how many microscopic "swarfettes" swirling around the HST for 215 hours past the recommended first service interval, kind of killed it--for me. YMMV.

In any event, ALL of your speedy responses and insightful expertise were most welcome! :)

Sincerely,

My Hoe

The 50 hour service is all engine & hydraulic filters. Engine oil, but not hydraulic fluid. So any swarf smaller than the filter would still be in my hydraulic system after i did my proper service. Big stuff would still be caught in the filter either way.

Making him a lower offer for cash in person might net you a good tractor. Or wait for the right one to come up.

Fallon,

Hmm...that's interesting. As Johnny Carson (?) was wont to say (may he R.I.P.): "I did not know that...."

Does anyone know if the hydraulic filters have an "emergency bypass," as I understand that most engine oil filters do?

The reason I ask is probably obvious to all, but just in case: if the swarf (large or small, or just general foreign matter) was voluminous enough to plug up the filter media (since the seller apparently extended the hydraulic oil filter change interval by almost a factor of five), a filter equipped with a "bypass valve" is supposed to let the oil bypass the (plugged) filter media, thereby allowing continued, full-pressure flow, of the albeit contaminated oil.

Fallon--what is the oil change interval on the hydraulic fluid itself?

And also, what is the (next?) hydraulic fluid filter oil change interval, if it is less than the fluid change interval (if you know)?

You've got me reconsidering, and I hear you about an after (no)sale offer.... Especially after we have a discussion about the unchanged hydro filter, as was suggested as a negotiating point. Thanks again!

My Hoe

Somebody posted the WSM (Workshop manual) on here. search for L3200 WSM or something to find it. Just hit 60 hours, so haven't looked at the higher hour services too hard yet.

In my opinion the grille guard is normal, and that is a BH77, and the loader is the correct one (la524) for the machine and it is a SSQA bucket also.

The price is at least $1000 too high.. Also as a bargaining point the 50 hour service was not done. The hydraulic filter is original gray color. Should be white. I would assume the hydrostat filter has not been changed either.

Blugill2 and K0ua,

Thank you for the info on the unchanged filter, but K0ua, now I've got to ask you if you'd mind educating me on the difference between the "hydraulic filter" and the "hydrostat filter. I guess I thought they were the same, or that the the "hydrostat filter" was actually a screen, inside the hydraulic fluid return tank, as I have seen on some equipment?

And thanks for your opinion that the price is "...at least $1000 too high...." The market ("0 bids") obviously agrees with you, as do I, FWIW.

And to Blugill2, K0ua and others:

Thank you for "straightening me out" (pun intended) on the (unbent) grill guard. I have since looked around harder (after I wrote my first post) and did see others with the same, "largish" (IMO) distance between the guard and the grill. I assume this is to allow the hood to open further, for ease of servicing? In any event, thanks to all who caught that, and verified that it IS a BH77 hoe, as well. (I did notice--also after posting----that I could see portions of the "77" in one of the pics.

Thanks again!

My L3200 should be the same as a L3800 for most everything. Think they just tune the same engine for a few more HP, possibly a few minor different parts.

Book says filters every 200 hours, oil every 100 hours, hydro oil every 400.

Promising to do a potential deal in cash in person should calm any fears of fraud that usually accompany internet offers, especially just after a failed ebay auction.

The HST filter is on the "drivers" side, hydraulic filter on the "passenger" side, both just under the step off the operator platform. Easy to access to change, but a hair vulnerable to damage from stuff hitting the undercarriage. They look like your average car oil filter, although a bit smaller if I remember & I think they were different sizes. The HST & other hydraulics share a common sump, so not entirely sure why there are separate filters. There are either 2 or 3 actual pumps. HST, hydraulics & power steering (not sure if that's a priority circuit, or another pump entirely).

The swarf isn't a problem, as the filter/s catches it all and wont let any pass. The 50hr service miss is a concern, but wouldn't be a deal killer for me. I've seen a few tractors around here with more hours than than and still have not been serviced. I would use the 'no service' to get a better deal though.

Agreed, not a deal killer, but a "deal maker".. It is not the end of the world that the filters were not changed when they should. Does it do the tractor any good? NO, but it will likely survive. The hydrostatic filter is on the other side from the Hydraulic filter. It is the more expensive filter, and is a high pressure filter with finer filtration media to ensure the hydrostat gets cleaner fluid than the other hydraulic componets that all use fluid from the common sump (the transmission case). The hydraulic filter is on the right side of the tractor under the floorboard, and is a suction filter in the suction line of the hydraulic pump to keep crap from going thru the pump. It is the least expensive of the two filters. The oil filter is up on the engine and hopefully it has been changed. No way to tell from the photos as it is not shown. I believe Fallon gave you the schedule for the filter changes. 100 on the oi land its filter 200 on the hydraulic and hydrostatic filters and hydraulic fluid at 400. I dont think there is any bypass on either the hydraulic or hydrostatic filters.

Could see the oil filter in one photo and it was original grey.
