Buying 1736 - Concern Regarding Tier IV

My Tier 4 Kubota L3560 (35-hp, net) first flashed the REGEN light at 62 hours. Burning off soot took sixteen minutes at 2,200 rpm.

Tier 4 for tractors is HERE. Learn to love it. Its all we have.

They should of used SCR/DOC instead.

Glad we bought the 1635 when we did.

This is helpful. That's probably months of use for me. If I get a quieter engine and no black soot on everything all the time and all I have to trade in return is regen a few times a year then that seems ok.

Not only will you pay thousands more for it up front, you will use more fuel, too.

As Arnold would say: Tier IV is already OLD NEWS. It is all we have. Similar feeling were expressed, at length, when Tier III arrived.

Tier V is probably in draft form in Washington, D.C.

and then a big repair bill when the DPF needs a physical cleaning or replacement.

3,000 Hours is estimated life with Massey Ferguson Diesel Particulate Filter. How many years will it take you to reach 3,000 Hours???

Not to change the subject, but I was running a Deere 650K LGP dozer the other day and a code and message came over the instrument panel display. Don't remember exactly what it read but I ended up having to let it sit and idle til it cleaned the exhaust out or something like that. It automatically revved up to about 1400 RPMs and returned to normal idle when the process was complete. Took about 30+ minutes or so to do what it done. I thought it was 100% stupid to have to stop a machine because of this, while charging an hourly rate to work it. Should u pass it to the customer or eat it yourself?? With these situations out of our hands, the only question we should ask now is "What's next?" I guess we should be thankful that 'At Least We Still Have The Right' to buy a product or not. I blame the government, not a manufacturer. I'm assuming most people feel the same way. I wonder if this has anything to do with having to add that "additive" stuff in the new Dodge diesels?

MO MF - Thank you so much for your post. This is helpful. Two questions:

As I understand your post, high horsepower users are seeing regen every 50-70 hours or so. If short run times/idle speeds mean that we would need to regen twice as often (i.e., every 25 or 35 hours), then that would be okay with me, because that would mean that if the tractor is used 1/2 hour a day (or 15 hours a month total), then we would only need the regen once every couple of months. Is this a reasonable conclusion, or am I way off?

If the tractor is in a regen mode while I am cutting grass or snowplowing or something, and it is turned off, does it have to start over? Or does it reduce the particulate level such that it does not then need to regen again for some time.

If any other 1700 series users have any practical experience with this also, that would be helpful. Perhaps I am making a bigger deal out of this than it is. I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on a new tractor and wind up with a huge hassle having to leave the tractor running in the driveway all the time.

It will reduce the particulate level until such time as it needs to regen again.

Not sure but I believe SCR technology may be a quite a bit more expensive than DPF snd EGR.
