Buying Advice Cabela's selling Compact Tractors

"trust is earned, we need to be willing to at least hear folk out. "

Yeah, sure, I'll listen to somebody. But, when the message is "trust me and not your lying eyes" I can be a little skeptical.

"It's really whether the dealer experience is worth the extra money."

Sounds like about all you're getting is a camo paint job. And, no doubt these days, there are people who will overpay for a camo paint job just for the sake of a camo paint job so they'll sell a few.

And if you can't trust a brand new member with 10 posts who is openly hawking an item......................who can you trust?

I can understand the comment, might have thought the same thing myself. For what it's worth, I've been a TBN member and contributor for many years, but had to create a new ID as my brand affiliation changed with my new role. I don't intend to post often; only joined in on this thread when the incorrect info, such as folks saying that Cabela's wasn't going to service tractors, started piling up. At the heart of TBN is the opportunity to provide members with useful information, and no member thinks that incorrect info does anyone any good. Consider a thread where there are 50 posts on a given topic, but no one posting fully understands the topic enough to know all of the facts. That does not serve the TBN membership very well. We all know that OEMs and dealers contribute alongside regular tractor owners. Often times they don't identify themselves as such, but note that I was up front and identified myself as being affiliated with Cabela's. If I pop into discussions now and then, it will be to correct inaccuracies as they relate to Cabela's tractors, will strive to be polite and respectful of other's opinions and I will never comment negatively about any competitive brand. Thanks to all for reading.

Agreed. and their wives will give them camo underwear for Christmas, and it will cost double the normal Hanes.
Good old fashioned marketing. It worked for Ford Explorers, it will work for Cabela. Personally I think they will get hammered on price and will have to add
something to up the value. Like an added warranty, free pickup, something to differentiate themselves other than a paint job.
Having a competent marketing infrastructure already in place is a huge advantage for Cabela's, and yes, working on boats does mean they know how to run a service dept. Maybe the boat end worked so well they figured on branching out into tractors. Just another consumer product to a big company.

Just hard to believe they will sell well in an area with existing dealers who are all trying to market a tractor at a price point below the
top two or three. Will be interesting to see how they do and what models work best for them.

Wow, some of you are being unnecessarily harsh. I appreciate that someone who actually had answers came on here and posted correct info about Cabelas tractors and implements, instead of all the guessing and speculation that went on before. No reason to knock the guy because he likes his job and takes pride in it.

+1 cut the man some slack. He was upfront about who he was and his mission. If you don't want one of their tractors, don't buy one. But he doesn't deserve to be kicked in the groin for just telling us about his mission.

Not crotch-kicking him because he got a new gig. Good for him.

But, does anyone really think that Cabela's is seriously interested in the long term tractor industry? Some pointy heads at corporate came up with the marketing, they bought some tractors from TYM and slapped their name on them, and, ouila. Invested? Committed? They'll try it for a little bit, it'll probably not pan out, and then, they'll drop them so fast it won't be funny. What about the guy who bought a Cabela's branded rig then? We've all only seen so many times that it's no longer funny. Cabela's is a retailer. If it doesn't make them money pretty quick it will be forgotten and done with in the same fashion.

So.... it is anti American for a large sporting enterprise to get into tractors, to see if the fit is there, but it is ok for a little guy to sell them out of his garage?

Why do some of you need to be so pessimistic?

Do you go home and kick the dog and beat the wife when you get grumpy too?
