Pricing a MF1759 help

Hydro is indeed better for loader work. There is simply no way around that fact. I'm a gear guy and love the Powershuttle on Masseys, but my second MF had a hydro as most of the work we do with the 1643 is with the loader. Very fast and efficient in terms of getting around. Also, no slipping a clutch while digging into a pile of dirt.

HST is much better for loader work.

It sounds like I should circle the wagons around a MF1758 then.

Eric. I just got finished a chat on the Massy web site, trying to find out about the subframe front blade. Wheather it would fit on the 1600 and the 1700. No answer yet. The one for the 1600 looks exactly like the one on my Farmall 40.I was more interested in the 1700 series but the 1600 will be considered If I hear an answer I will post it. Please keep us informed on your search. lt190b

Will do, It190b. I'm also trying to find out about a true 3rd function on the loader. Massey has kits for the 1600 series but information about the 1700 series isn't available for us or dealers apparently.

I'd like to know about float control as well.

I'm curious as to why you are settling for a brand and dealership that isn't giving you the equipment you want and quoting the equipment you requested? If it is this much of a struggle to get the information you want up front, imagine what life will be like when you have an issue with the tractor you need resolved. doesn't sound like your local dealer is very helpful and if you are going to shop for the best price up to or beyond a couple of states away, you'll really be on your own come service time.

Why not go with something like a Kubota that will give you excellent reliability, performance, competitive pricing and financing and a dealership network second to none? It's no accident that they are #1 in compact tractors. I could see if you were going to save a significant $ amount ($10K or more), but your reasons for going with the tractor in the first place was to avoid spending money on repairs. You'd be contradicting yourself by going with a less established brand.

Regarding the 6 way dozer blade - All dozer blade attachments are 4 way. They become 6 way when you mount it on a loader. Using the curl and dump functions on the loader gives you the 6 way function. You may want to reconsider spending the money on that attachment. The dozer is really only effective on a compact track loader that rides flat across the ground allowing you to cut grade and push without the tires following the undulations of the ground. When you put a dozer blade on a wheeled machine, whether it is a skid steer or a tractor, you end up dealing with the front tires rising and falling, even ever so slightly, or the undulations in the ground. At the end of the loader arm which is even farther out multiplying the distance of travel, the blade will rise and fall quite a bit, making an even cut VERY difficult. Yes, a tractor has a longer wheelbase than a skid steer but the loader also sits out further in front. There is a significant difference between a snow blade and a dozer blade in the blade and a dozer blade also has a tilt cylinder which a snow blade does not.

By the way, all dealerships charge for freight and setup and dollar amounts are going to be about the same, relative to how big your setup package is. Some will itemize it, some will bury it in the price. Nothing's free.

Regarding the Toolcat's traction, take a look at thee new ones. There is a traction control option you can get now that will put the power to the wheel that is not spinning. An amazing difference.

Good Luck in your search.

I think Kubota makes nice tractors, but they are not necessarily "better" than any other brand, nor are they necessarily "competitively priced" compared to many others.

"Dealer network" is their main advantage, naturally, but that doesn't necessarily add any actual "value" to the vast majority off Kubota owners.

No where in my post did I say they were better, though I may have my own opinion on that on certain aspects. What I did say, and nothing the OP has said contradicts it, is that he is getting the run around from his local dealer (paraphrasing). I will say that they may have made the right choice for him though, but a good dealer would give you what you want and show you the options that are available to him with different tractors etc.

Based on the pricing he gave above, Kubota can be right in there at those prices, if not better. I call that competitive,

It's not my intention to derail this thread or start a brand war, but I looked at Kubotas before buying anything, and I wasn't impressed with the design or engineering. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I'd like to thank everybody who participated in this thread and on the Massey forum. I've learned more and received better advice, suggestions, and routes to explore and learn about from the Massey forum than anywhere else on this site.

As I said at the OP, I'm closing on the 15th next week on a neat bit of real estate. I've been waiting to test out Deere's new 4066R to finalize my choice, but considering I've already priced it out at $54K plus tax, and I close on 2950 feet of lakeshore on the 15th, I plan to pull the trigger without waiting for the new Deere 4066R.

Of the tractors I've looked at, the Massey is, to my eye, the best looking. The Massey has the best hydros, speed wise, and looked as though it has the most robust chassis with tie rods mounted behind the front axle and beefier components, but the cab layout is traditional, and not as ergonomic as other OEMs. Kubota's L6060 has some nice features (I especially liked the engine acceleration button on the joystick), higher quality automotive feeling controls, but for the price $52K plus tax (keeping in mind that I shopped 2 or 3 dealers for each model whenever possible), Kioti's NS6010 is in the front running since it is $12K less than Kubota's L6060, $6,000 less than Massey's MF1758, and $14K less than the Deere's yet-unseen 4066R. The Kioti's cab controls are nice enough, and with the exception of the rear window wiper position and only one strut holding up the rear window, as well as the cheap feeling rear window latch, it has the best cab layout insofar as control positioning. Kubota shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of the knob to control their electronic HST for a single mode button, that at once I found to be difficult to use and irritating. Kubota did have document storage built into the bulkhead, which I thought was nice, and insofar as detailing, Kubota's cab was well put together except for being able to see the sun shine orange through the HVAC vents. I liked the map light Massey has as well as the courtesy dome light. Subjectively, I liked Massey's instrument layout the best. I did not like that all the light switches are located in the headliner and it isn't obvious to me that the factory thought about owners adding additional switches. Kioti has blanks in the B pillar for adding more switches to run whatever the owner dreams up and one 12v power supply already built in. If the Massey could equal the cab layout Kioti, I'd get the Massey on the perception that the Massey is built better or is, at the very least, pretty. The Mahindra, while less money still than the Kioti, started cold very poorly, one of the air vents in the cab literally fell off in my hand when I touched it, and the cab layout was similar to the Massey and John Deere 4720, which I did not like. Both Massey and Kioti offer projection lights up front. I'm amazed that people aren't jamming in HID kits behind them, but projector lights alone are a step up and I noticed and appreciated this detail.

Special purchasing considerations are that due to a complete lack of fear on my part, my body is pretty banged up, including my back and neck, and as a result a key selling point for me is how easy is it for me to look backward at the 3 pt in the cab. I felt that Kioti is the best followed by Mahindra, Kubota, Massey and then the old Deere 4720.

Things that I was amazed by is that not one OEM offers a true 3rd loader function. Not one OEM offers a HD rearview camera and monitor and only Kubota and John Deere offers an OEM top and tilt. All the OEMs offer a diverter valve for a 3rd function except Kioti. Michigan Machine offers a diverter valve for Kioti but it lacks a factory feel.

Anyway, unless a 4066R falls out of the sky within a week and I fall in love with it, I plan to buy a Kioti NX6010. At just under $40K, it is hard to pass over the Kioti even if I will need to fab up some bits for it.

Here is what else I'm buying. :)

Photo from north western corner property marker. The property extends all the way down to the point, around the point, and halfway around they bay on the other side of the point. Once cleared enough, a home on the point will enjoy lake views to the south, west, and north, along with sunsets over the water and a gradual sand beach.
