I've heard that copper coils can be just as bad. Or was I misinformed?

Any coil that is "heavy" is dangerous in that a lot of carriers do not know how to properly secure the load. Steel coils are generally more dangerous because they usually weigh more. More weight in motion creates greater risk of loss of load.

Coils in general are tricky to secure and I consider them to be dangerous, and I see details on every OW/OD load that enters my state.

I came across this picture I had taken a few years ago, I thought y'all would find amusing, while at the boat ramp, The water level was down several feet, Folks were having a difficult time launching their boats, This Escalade pulls up towing a 3 seater jet-ski ,one man unhooked the ski from it's trailer and climbs on to set on the ski as if he didn't want to get wet:confused:, the driver of the Escalade starts backing down into the water.... and keeps backing down.... and down... Until the bottom portion of the Escalade was fully emerged, The driver crawls out and yells to the man on the ski, "I waited for you to tell me when to stop" Ha! I thought to myself doesn't this person know when he should stop.. Heh!-heh! :D

after looking back at the situation I began to think.... Hmmmm! These two men could have easily slid the ski off the trailer on into the water, .... Oh! but they didn't want to get wet:cool: I still, when thinking about seein that,

This is interesting. I worked for a company who produced and transported coils of steel. At the time the two other people I worked with made just a bit over the min wage. I was close to it myself. And there was a boss who got mad at me because I let them take a truck loaded out of state, as neither had a licence and one time they did it and dropped a coil on the highway. Crazy stuff, but even crazier was two days in the job and I was supposed to second guess the bosses. (this was night shift).

You think one coil is bad, you should see a truck with 11 axles carrying 5 coils. Not on public roads, mind you, but still pretty neat.

My wife shot a video just a couple years ago of a full sized jackass in the backseat of a newer Chevy Malibu going through town.

The better part of yesterday was spent jamming scrap steel into the back of the minivan. Maybe they were trying to offset some tongue weight. It hasn't left the yard yet, but that has to be their intent.
