Buying Advice Hidden costs of Kubota BX 25D

/ Hidden costs of Kubota BX 25D #11
I enjoyed the post. Funny but true.

If those are all the hidden costs you've found to date, you clearly haven't spent enough time on the BXpanded website. Harry (BXpanded) has the Piranha Tooth Bar, Belly Armor, Backhoe Thumb and a lot of other goodies that can, and probably will, add to your "hidden costs" over time.

Welcome to the forum.

loved the original post from a new member. his pain, your gain, but there were no hidden costs at all, they all left a mark, and most could not simply be "buffed out" (ouch) - when you can look back and chuckle that's a good start in the learning curve. carry on, more bills will follow :D as you gain experience

when I was 13 I drove my dad's ride on mower into and up the front stairs (couldn't hit the brake quick enough), now that I'm older I have been known to coast into a tree or two while maneuvering in a tight spot. those are the ones that I "bluff" away. (nobody knew ... until now) :)

I think the original poster's story was mostly tongue in cheek don't you think? A cautionary tale if you will for new tractor owners..

If it was humor I totally missed it....and in my present state I can understand why. I have not read past post 3 so I may have to come back and edit, but I took it as cold hard facts. If I missed it and I ticked off the OP then I really am sorry that was not my intent at all.

Just read the rest...dude I am so sorry. You really never know with people anymore. I did not know if you are the kind that would file suit against John Deere because he backed over his kid with the mower running.

I do see your point. I have bought a ratchet rake, the PTB, and god knows what else. Just another sign that I am getting real edgy with my current state....not an excuse but explanation. I remember back in a time where everyone wore the same clothes....one of my standard lines was....is that an excuse or an explanation....I am not interested in either...get it done or I will take a &^%$ on you.

No worries. But to answer one of your questions in your first post. Remember I bought the thing because I had 8 foot piles of snow at the edge of the driveway. The delivery guy told me not to use the blower on them as they were all ice and I would break the shear pins. So I dug a spot with the loader to put the trailer through. Got the trailer stuck in the snow. Used the loader to dig it out of threee feet of snow. Got the that stuck and used the truck to pull out the loader. One of my buddies has a BX. He stopped over and told me he chews up curbs with his blower. So I blew the whole freakin yard. Then I got stuck in mud instead of snow. Though the quad did not get stuck but not powerful enough to get anything unstuck. Bought a come-along. Forgot to add that.

Welcome to TBN. I got your humor. Sometimes I have to fix 3 things before I can do what I set out to do. It's all good. Frustrating sometimes .... But good.

I live in CT about 30 miles outside of New York City but was born in VA so I'm a hick at heart. I am a Financial Advisor and sit in an office all day so when home I'm outside doing stuff in the yard. I have a crazy long and steep driveway which I plowed with a quad. The first year I lived there I plowed just to the end of the driveway and ran out of driveway pretty quick. Since then I have plowed the snow 15 feet into the yard. In March I still ran out of driveway! I looked around online a bit and read that a Kubota with a big blower would work pretty good. Called my local dealer who I guess could see I was just kind of browsing and wouldn't give me the time of day. (Went to see them after I got it and they were the nicest people. Felt bad.) Called a couple of more places and talked to a dam good salesman and it was in my driveway two days later. Got talked into the backhoe thank god. Got the fronted mounted snowblower and the mower.

My first project was to dig out underneath the deck. It is a second story deck but has a slope so I could only store stuff under a portion of it. As I mentioned before I live on a pretty steep hill. Started this about five minutes after the delivery guy left. Told my family it would take me twenty minutes. It took me two days! At times I wanted to go get a shovel.

1st hidden cost: The frost line was crazy so I had to chip at the dirt. Didn't really know what I was doing so smacked the **** out of the support poles about 40 times. Gotta replace them. I have no idea how much.

2nd hidden cost: I guess I jerked the backhoe too much because one of the lines started leaking like crazy. Went to local dealer told me it was under warranty but I had to bring it there or else he was going to charge me $300 to come get it. My trailer wasn't big enough so tried to borrow one but they were all buried in snow. Went to local trailer guy who said all the landscapers were making money clearing snow so they were buying all the trailers and I couldn't get one for three weeks. Had to drive three hours away to get one. $3000 Awesome trailer though TWF 16 X 8. Meanwhile the place that sold me the tractor came out and fixed it at my house but still had to buy the trailer.

3rd hidden cost: I have an acre and a half a good portion in lawn. When I removed the dirt from under the deck I would dump it at the very edge of my yard. Got the tractor, 4Runner, and the trailer all stuck in the yard numerous times. I destroyed the yard. Rented york rake and roller $150. Decided since I had the york rake I should make some 途oads in the woods. Broke it $90 to fix. 10 bales of hay I have no idea how much, $300 in grass seed and as a last ditch effort $150 in starter fertilizer. I have a vegetable garden and like to think I have a green thumb but grass is dam hard to grow! Lawn sprayer guy $500 a year. I'm done with this fertilizer crap.

4th hidden cost: That BXpanded backhoe cart. $211 delivered. He won't budge on price. I love it though.

5th hidden cost: Front mounted hitch receiver. To get the trailer when I have the hoe on. I think about $90 delivered.

6th hidden: Rear mounted hitch receiver. To move the trailer when I have the blower on. Didn't buy it yet as it didn't snow after I got the machine. Freaking figures! It's the reason I got it.

Anyway for people looking at getting one. Choose your first project wisely.

Very good post, Welcome to TBN. I needed this Laugh.

I feel your pain.

I bought a new Jeep and put big bumpers and a winch on. That made it look funny with the skinny factory Rubicon tires and rims. So I had little choice but to put on bigger tires/wheels. They rubbed the fenders, so I installed flat fenders which seemed like a reasonable solution. Things still rubbed a bit, a miscalculation I suppose, so I installed a lift. Now it was hard to get into, so I installed sliders for protection and steps. That made it pretty good off-road, but it was so dark at times. So new lights front and rear. And summer arrived, so I had to get half doors and remove the top. But off road you often need to air the tires down, so I had to get on-board air. Funny thing after that it wasn't so good on the highway anymore so I had to buy an AWD BMW to take trips to see the kids. Mind you, I just wanted a Jeep. The accessories are now about as much as the Jeep, with the BMW being the most pricey Jeep accessory so far. My wife is so kind, but I'm pushing it a little at this point....

I'm now thinking that the tires/wheels are looking small, so perhaps some bigger tires next go round....and off we go again.

Jeep really needs to post some sort of disclaimer on the window sticker about these "hidden costs".

Wait until you need to build a barn for your tractor and all it's implements and accessories. And then halfway through the project you decide a bigger tractor is needed to finish the project. It never ends.....

Great post - read it and laughed. Even read it to my wife as she is always shaking her head about what we "Need" for the tractors....

Not only had to build the barn for the new tractor, I had to build the pad too. It required fill over 6 foot high on one side. There is no flat ground in Branson, unless you "buy" it.
