How loud is your Kioti?

I was assuming that all the same measurements would be taken, just from the opposite side, but just from the side of the tractor, not from the exhaust point having to measure through the tractor itself.

I would think the reading that would really matter would be the reading near the steering wheel. It is what the operator is exposed to that really concerns me the most. Of course a cab tractor will always be way quieter than an open station I would think.

Those free apps aren't calibrated so the app on one phone will give a different reading than the same app on a different phone. I've tried a few and they all were very inaccurate with my andriod phone when compared to a dedicated calibrated device. There are a couple of paid apps for ios that do work well as those devices are quite surprisingly consistant and the app digs deep in the os to override some of the filtering and auto gain.

One of the other members (Eric) took some sound level reading of his newTier 4 NX series Kioti the other day, and the numbers seemed fairly quiet. I commented that I believed that my DK35se might be somewhat louder, but I had no way to prove that. Then another member chimed in and said hey James, there is an app for that! Sure enough in the Android store there are several sound level meter apps, most for free. So I downloaded one called sound meter, (very unique name huh?), and took some readings. Here is what I came up with.

With tractor at idle, I measured 88db at 1 foot and 79db at three foot and 74 db at 6 foot. I measured 75 db sitting in the seat.

With tractor at 2510 rpm (which is about the 540 setting) the one foot and three foot were the same at 94db and six foot was 90 db with the seat at about 90 db. I believe the sound "meter" could have been in compression at the 1 foot measurement. as even though the meter goes to 120db, I believe the input amplifier circuitry has an agc function that would limit very loud sounds.

What can you expect for a free app on a smartphone? Anyway, yes my tier 4 interim machine appears to be louder than a Tier 4 final machine, as would be expected with the extra things in the exhaust path of the new Tier 4 machine. Perhaps some of you would take the time to measure your machines and see what you get.

I just bought a new dosemeter for some environmental testing at work, and need to learn how to use it, so I may try it on this.

My ct225 is also loud. I tested it with a I phone sound free app. Although I question it's accuracy here r my findings. All was done with a cab on and with the doors removed. At idol 95 db near exhaust 3 in away and 3 feet away was about 90. From seat at head level it was 88-89. At 24-2500 rpm (540 pto range) 97-98 at 3 in from exhaust 95 at 3 foot and 95 in driver seat head level. It's louder in my cab when my doors r on but have not tested it yet.

Those sound levels will cause permanent hearing loss. Got to wear hearing protection. For instance, at 90dB permanent hearing loss happens after 1-2 hours of exposure. Repeat damage is cumulative.

I wear ear buds when I operate my tractor for any work longer than 20 minutes. If I don't, I can't hear anything the rest of the day. Tends to tick the old lady off, thinks I am ignoring her.
