I cannot tell you how many pins, bolts, nuts, pieces, etc I cannot find in my field. Maybe I need to get a metal detector. I've had some rather large pieces of metal "disappear" in my field. I've had three people look in the area where the piece fell off - self disassembled. The worst one was the pin on my telescoping arms fell out (how does that happen) and I lost a big piece of that. Of course the dealer ordered me in a new piece, but where did it go? Tractor fairy? Gremlins? CIA?

It is probably hidden beneath some pallets stacked in the field.

There are plenty who will understand - lol

I lost the cap to my tractor's fuel tank, gave up searching for it, and bought a new one. The lost cap turned up in the pasture, yesterday.

Lost my exhaust pipe first week I owned it. Wife found it in the pasture.

1st day mowing with with a new tractor and pull type shredder. I went to back up and the tire started spinning .
The lower arm had dropped and dug in like a plow because the linkage was not locked and it unscrewed. I was missing the center piece. I was determined to find it and 30 minutes later I did.

I've had the knob for the throttle lever on my tractor on sabbatical at least three times. First time i found it about 3 weeks later, second time it was gone a week. I think this time its gone for good. Probably hanging out somewhere with the case of the dog's tennis balls that have disappeared.

The only parts I've managed to find have been those that fall off in the driveway. Anything lost in the wood or fields would have to be a pretty big part for me to find it again. As for metal detectors...I bought one to locate expensive horse shoes lost/shed in our pastures. Unfortunately, on an old farmstead like ours, the metal detector beeps all the time at small bits of metal (bits of fence, nails, screws, who-knows-what) and makes it very time-consuming and frustrating to even look for a specific lost bit of metal.

I've dropped all sorts of nuts, bolts etc while working on the tractor. Its next to impossible to find anything like that in my lawn. I use my metal detector - very successfully - to find this stuff. Out beyond my lawn where the old homestead was - my metal detector goes berserk. I have a distinct feeling that the original homesteaders NEVER bent over to look for anything dropped!!
