When are they going to stop calling these half-tons ???

I don't think the manufacturers call them half tons, but for some reason we still do.

How come so expensive?

I just got a deal on a brand-new 2014 F1 50 XLT with XTR and a whole bunch of other goodies, for a two-year lease, for $238 per month, with $3000 down.

Ford has always offered a heavy duty package which includes heavier axles, 7 lug wheels, and brakes. 2015 models get about a 530 lb payload increase from the 2014 model. Sounds about right with the stated 700 lb weight loss with the Supercrew model. Basically Ford allows someone to order a F250 suspension and axles with the F150 powertrains and bodies. I think that is brilliant and opens up more options for consumers. This wouldn't be as valuable if they offered the ecoboost in the F250 but that probably wouldn't fly well with many.

No offense, but spending $8712 +TTL to drive a vehicle for 2 years seems expensive to me.

Not if you consider the fact that the depreciation over those two years would be more, and you would not have to tie up $35,000 to $40,000 or so as well as pay taxes on that full amount (13% here in Ontario) (Think opportunity cost.). Heck, the taxes alone on $40k would be $5200!

Best of all, in 2 years I can get a brand-new one, with the new aluminum body! (And with all the new-model bugs worked out.)

Sounds like a good deal to me.😉

Honestly if you plan on having a new ride every couple of years then a lease can make sense. They changed the laws down here and you have to pay taxes on the full purchase price when you lease and they don't give you credit for that when you trade it in so for that reason alone it makes the numbers work out differently for me.
Congratulations on your new truck!

Leases worked for me from 1994 till 2008. I bet I did 16 or so vehicles in that time for me and the wife. All were 24 month terms from Ford, Honda, and Lexus and only a few we keep that long. Usually around 18 months they were hounding us to trade in. We always keep our payment the same or walked.
