Buying Advice Considering new Kubota L3901 or used New Holland TC40 DA, which should I choose?

Weight is a huge factor if your toting around a 6ft rotary cutter, especially if its a medium or heavy duty unit. The NH is the heavier machine by far with much more lifting capacity at the loader. My DX40, same as the TC40DA, I believe to have very conservative ratings on the lift capacity of the loader. The hydro is great, I'd rather have a CVT though. The TC has a four range transmission as well, two mechanical ranges and two electrical that change the angle on the swash plates on the pump. These units are capable of several thousand hours, I would not be concerned much with 800 hours if the dealer has checked it over and it seems taken care of.

The New Holland is a bullet proof tractor. The kubota is good, but If I were you I would definitely take the new holland.

I decided on the New Holland. $15,500 and they're going to also put a canopy on it and waterfill/hydroseal the tires for me at no additional cost. I'm going to leave the R4 tires on it for now and see how they do as it looks like it'll be $2,000 - $3,000 to change them to R1. Should have it sometime this week, thanks for all the advice!

Hey good move on the canopy! Good luck. I would think the all the options on the NH will make you happy you didn't settle for an 'economy' stripped tractor.

Definitely had to have a canopy, I've run tractors with and without, with is definitely better. Especially since my property is in South Texas, the sun is very strong down there.

Really hard to justify a canopy here in the great PNW! At least for a sun shade. :laughing:

Actually thinking about some kind of retractable baby carriage type of setup extending forward from the ROPS.

Just got her home. Went ahead and got a Modern Ag 6' box blade since the most pressing job is dirt work, next I need a 6' shredder, a disc and a 2 bottom plow. Then add the 3rd function and get a grapple. I have a PTO post hole digger but after I get the 3rd function, I might get a front end PHD instead.

That's a beauty Stx. I would have picked that one too but not for all the reasons stated thus far. It would be my way of railing against the government edicts that have caused people to have to pay 3 or 4000 more for the same tractor before Tier 4. I haven't been on a hydro i like but still would have picked the used tractor in a heart beat.
